I used Mercury Payment Systems (MPS) as my credit card service provider for my business and let me tell you, these people are just plain unprofessional, a rip-off and do false advertising. Avoid them at all cost, there are much better honest companies out there that won't try to rip you off. If you already signed up with Mercury Payment Systems thinking they won't charge you a cancellation fee (because that's what it says in their advertising) I strongly recommend looking for another company to use for your credit card processing.

When I signed up with Mercury Payment Systems, I was told that there was no time commitments and no cancellation fees what so ever. Great, sounds good to me...but wait a minute:

I just recently sold my business and had to cancel my credit card service. About a month later I see a $295 charge on my business bank account from their company, so I called them up and they told me it was a termination fee and there was nothing they could do about it. They told me that it was impossible for them to refund it or wave it (but they could take it out of your account so easily) when I asked if I could have it refunded and I would pay it some other way (this was just to see if they were able to refund it since I was told there was no way of doing it...) they said sure, if you give us a credit card number over the phone...why, so you could charge me twice for something I'm not supposed to get charged for in the first place? I don't think so. On top of that, two days later there was a $29.95 charge on my account from them. Total cancellation fees (so far...): $324.95, unbelievable.

And by the way, when you call them to cancel your service they won't even tell you about any termination fees, you'll just get a big surprise in your bank account after the fact.

Right now I'm working on getting some of this money back from my bank since none of these charges were authorized. I had to have my bank change my account to a limited account (which means no money can be taken out, you can only make deposits) just to stop Mercury Payment Systems from draining my bank account with unauthorized charges.

UPDATE: MERCURY PAYMENT SYSTEMS REFUNDED THE MONEY

AUTHOR: Badbusinesses4u - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 27, 2008

I was contacted recently by one of their customer service reps who worked things out with me. The rep was very nice and promised a refund which I just received today. He even followed up on the phone call by sending an email telling me the refund was on it's way. I also received a very nice letter from him included with the check. Case closed and I wish I hadn't typed up this report now but who knows, it might have actually helped.

Nowhere on the contract does it say you will get a $295 early termination fee.

I have the contract with the terms and conditions and I DID read it at least twice: when I received it before signing up and after getting the charge on my account. It doesn't say ANYWHERE that there will be a $295 early termination fee, thank you for pointing this out by the way. I READ ALL CONTRACTS AND TERMS AND CONDITIONS no matter if it's for a business or personal matter so don't assume people aren't reading it. I wouldn't have posted this report if that $295 fee was mentioned anywhere on the contract. Mike, it sounds like you're an employee or maybe the owner since you are talking about "EARLY Termination Fees" Google your own advertising and read your terms and conditions buddy! Prove to me that I'm wrong by pointing out this $295 fee on MY contract and MY terms and conditions.

You will have your credit ruined

If you stop them from being able to access your account they will send you to collections! If you look at the agreement you signed you personally guaranteed this and gave them your social security number on the form. Since you did this they have every right to do this. Also, read the form you signed and you will see the early termination fee. Since you owned your own business why did you sign the contract without reading it? No bodys fault but your own!!!
