I became disabled after five years work for IBM. I was told that I had Long Term Disability Insurance with MetLife.

I have several compressions of the spine and had a three tier surgery with 8 screws in my neck. The pain has never left, but the chances of being a quadraplegic have been lessoned.

I have herniated disks in the thoriac and lumbar regions of my spine. I cannot sit for more than 15 minutes at a time and I cannot move my neck between the phone and the computer for 8 hours. I also have bone spurs on the spine, arthritis of the spine as well as all the other joints. My doctors have said over and over I cannot work, but no attention is paid to that. They have a Dr. Minetto that states I can work even though he has never seen me.

I have been declared disabled by Social Security and have been receiving their benefits of $1,84.00 per month. I did receive the one year medical at full pay that was listed in my benefit package. I have not been able to get anything from MetLife.

I have gone through several attorneys who somehow just disappear when they hear MetLife. No attorney will get involved because there is no money for them. I am sure MetLife has arranged all of this to their benefit and people are just left with no chance to be able to pay their bills.

I am very close to bankruptcy because the $2,500. per month MetLife owes me for 8 months now is not coming and there is no relief in site. I am filing in Federal Court myself, but I don't hold out much hope.

How can these insurance companies keep cheating and cheating and nothing is ever done to them.

Insurance companies may refuse legitimate claims for long term disability benefits

AUTHOR: SonjaKathryna - (United States of America)

Hi, my name is Sonja, & Im with the disability rights group from  Sokolove Law.  We have been reviewing thousands of potential claims where insurance companies refuse long-term disability benefits to someone who has a legitimate claim. Too often, legitimate claims are denied because insurance companies look for every possible legal and technical angle available that will allow them to deny a valid claim. When an insurer does not live up to its end of the contract, they act on
what is called bad faith.

For folks interested in learning more about bad faith practices of insurance companies, there is great
information available at http://awe.sm/5o82i . If your claim has been rejected, I want you to know your rights and options. Call our office toll-free at 800-581-6943 to learn about your options and receive a free legal consultation.

Met Life IS the problem; proven in previous rebuttal to this poor victim's complaint - this is how they work!

AUTHOR: Mommynurse - (U.S.A.)

I apologize, I entered this into the wrong complaint against Met "Life". It was meant to fit here, in order to address this person and the rebuttal by a ML employee. However, it most likely would fit into any of the complaints.

Good Luck to all of you. They sure have ruined MyLife!

Good Luck to you. I just wanted to point out one of MetLife's techniques. It is written here by one of their employees who responded to your tragic situation. This is one of the ways in which they handle their business. They point a person around in many different directions, send them to other people for solutions to what is THEIR (MetLife's) responsibility.

I must mention one more thing. When a person is on disability, normally they are not in the condition to "fight" for the money which is rightfully theirs and earned. I believe full-heartedly that MetLife takes complete advantage of a disabled person's unfortunate circumstance. Is this not discrimination?

Come on, MetLife people, why must you do this to us? Can any of you MetLife employees think about what it would be like if you were in one of our pairs of shoes? I truly wonder how you are able to sleep at night.

I will write my story later - it is very detailed. Now, I am going into foreclosure on my home, filing bankruptcy, don't have food to feed my children, repo-man came for my truck, and I honestly don't know how I am going to keep my family from being homeless. THANK YOU, MetLife. You really have taken my life and thrown it to the wind.

Problem not with Met

AUTHOR: Paul - (U.S.A.)

Your problem sounds like it is with your HR dept who may or may not of purchased a group policy for all the employees of the company. If it is a group policy, your problem lies with your company. If it is an individual policy, contact your local agency.
