A student who just turned 18 and entered into a program at metroasis for esthetics. Was terminated from the program as it seemed she was struggling to comprehend the materials unstead of assisting the student or recommend resources so she may succeed. Found she received assistance from an older sibling on a take home exam and terminated the student On the spot for violation of student conduct (cheating ) at the exact point in the program the student would owe the maximum amount for the program in the minimum of time spent in the program. If there was an issue of a lack of understanding instructions no doubt it was reconized early on and in the interest of the student (their costumer) should have been protected from owing nearly the entire cost of the program, instead of additional instructions or assistance being offered to see the student to successful completion. What she paid for INSTRUCTION. They may have worked within the guidelines of post secondary education I don't know I am not familiar with all education guidelines however if within the law you can rip people off doest mean you should especially young naive, enexperenced people just starting out in life and for personal financial gain ithe disgracful. There are protective services for children, elderly and disabled. But none for this young lady who only intended to do something positive for her future.

False complaint, false facts.

AUTHOR: FSS - (USA)

Point #1. This student wasn't terminated from our program for struggling to comprehend the materials, she was terminated for fraud and cheating.

Point #2 & #3 & #4. This complaint states that "...she received assistance from an older sibling on a take home exam and terminated the student On the spot for violation of student conduct (cheating) at the exact point in the program the student would owe the maximum amount for the program in the minimum of time spend in the program."

This was not a "take home exam", this was an entrance exam which qualified the student for entrance into our school. This was not a "take home exam", it was an online exam. One of the prequalifying questions is "Are you honest", and this person irroniously said "yes". This was a lie. During the interview this student was asked directly as question #15. "Are you honest?", again this person said "yes". This was also a lie. Then on question #26. This person was asked directly "Did you cheat on the entrance exam?" Again, this person said "no". Anotheer lie. This person DID cheat on the entrance exam and would not have been admitted if she had been honest and told the truth. She didn't.

As far as terminating this student "...at the exact point in the program the student would owe the maximum amount for the program in the minimum of time spent in the program." This sentence doesn't even make sense and is a dishonest statement. The "maximum" cost would have been at the half way point, which this student had not reached yet. We tried to work with this student but I simply couldn't keep the rest of the class back to match the progress of this student who required me to spell nearly every word of every sentence during class. In a two and a half hour theory class, I am expected to cover the materials put forth in our training schedule. If I had actually stopped the class hundreds of times to spell even one syllable words, we wouldn't have made it through even the first page of the training. At first this student even denied that she had cheated on the entrance exam. Another lie. When we discovered that his person could barely read, we retested her twice. Both times she flunked the entrance exam, which is written in 7th to 9th grade reading level. If the student had reached the half way point of this program she would have owed us $6,180 for the program. We were only paid $3,090 for this training which included books, study guide materials, and a student kit. We received the first student loan check but we had to return the second check to the Alaska Student Loan office according to the policies that we must agree to as a vocational school located within the state of Alaska. We still have not been paid for about $2000 that she still owes us.

Point #5. "They may have worked within the guidelines of post secondary education I don't know I am not familiar with all education guidelines however if within the law you can rip people off doest mean you should especially young naive, enexperenced people...". We engage with about twenty seven people to find every one of our students and by accepting this fraudulent, lying student, we ended up not accepting another student who then had to go to another school. So this person defrauded that student, our school and the other students in her class that had to slow down to a fifth grade readin level to attempt to accomodate this unqualified student. We simply couldn't sacrifice the training for all of the other students in her class for this one student who cheated their way into our school. As for "post secondary guidelines", these are PostSecondary LAWS not guidelines. We are free to follow or not follor guidelines, we are not free to disregard the laws of the State of Alaska. We are required to follow all of the laws put forth by the Alaska Commission on PostSecondary Education. We used their worksheet to calculate the refund policy, and we're required to follow their refund calculations. This is a legal requirement of being a school in Alaska. We followed this perfectly. This information is online at our web sites, this is in the contract this student signed, this is in our student catalog and this is on the State of Alaska's website. I'm not sure how many times this particular student needs to read the same paragraph to understand this. This information is in this student's signed contract on page #5, which the student signed in four places, and initialized under the heading of "Refund Policy" which stated the terms that we followed EXACTLY to the letter. So, if we are not to follow the laws of Alaska, and the laws of PostSecondary, which laws should we follow? The OPINION of a student that lied numerous times to fraudulently gain entrance to our school depriving another person of her spot in our training program? I think not.

Point #6. To call us "disgraceful" when ALL of the dishonesty of this entire incident was on the part of the student is nothing short of disgusting. Firstly, she cheated on the entrance exam. Secondly, the sibling that helped her cheat also do so dishonestly. Thirdly, this person lied about her cheating, and now fourthly this false, deceptive and fraudulent complaint misrepresented the facts of this incident KNOWINGLY as we have communicated with several parties and everyone involved knows the actual truth about this matter. I'm sure that it is confusing when one comes from a family that lives with dishonesty day to day to enter an educational environment where the foundation is honesty, but the fault is not with the honesty of the institution but with the culture of dishonesty that this fraudulent student tried to inject into our training facility.

Our catalog (page 5) states - "MetrOasis will not tolerate cheating of any manner. This breach of our trust is grounds for dismissal because our relationship with you is based on honesty. If you are incapable of honesty, it will be impossible to have a long term relationship with us, OR your future employers. Students suspected of cheating on our entrance exam will be required to retest at any poing in their training. Students not being able to approximate their original score will be terminated. Students having other students clock in and out for them or that are caught cheating will be terminated." This was spelled out in our student catalog, during the interview, and on our web pages. Not only this, this requirement for honesty is common sense and is the normal operating procedure in all civilized countries and is the norm in all educaational facilities throughout the world.

We initially dropped this situation with this student still oweing us thousands of dollars, but we'll have to look further into this situation now that we have been publically libeled.
