There are real mystery shopping companies, and they do not operate in this way.  My friend has been mystery shopping for many years now (over 5 years) and she had to work her way up to being able to do the better places. Most mystery shopping outfits start new employees off on small assignments, such as McDonalds or another fast food place. They give you the time frame you must go in, as well as a whole checklist of details you have to look for (The job requires you be very observant and do alot of writing/reporting and order specific items off the menu). You always buy the items up front with your own money and make copies of your receipt to send to them.. it's a slow process to get paid back for the food and you earn VERY little money off doing these, even full time like my friend does - she takes every opportunity she can to do them and she still doesn't make enough money to live off of it - definately not a big income opportunity as some make it out to be.

Once you get into a legitimate secret shopper place, remember it may take YEARS before they trust you enough to secret shop any larger places and have the opportunity to make a "bit more money". I personally think from all of the work she puts into it and what she makes on the pay off, it's seriously not worth the time!

If it sounds too good to be true, it really is!
