If you are considering hiring Michael Burr at m.burr@verizon.net for any sort of video or photo needs, you might want to read this review. He apparently has a very nasty attitude and uses profane, unnecessary language. He apparently doesnt want to work very badly, when good money is being offered and he instead decides cuss someone youd think the guy is off his rocker or seriously disgruntled about something.

I had my assistant create an ad on Craigslist as we were seeking to have a videographer hired to shoot footage for videos. God Bless my assistants heart, she spelled videographer as videographist.

So Im thinking like, who cares right? I mean everyone who replied to the ad overlooked the mistake, probably because they wanted to make money and have a good disposition. Not Mr. Micheal Burr though, nope he instead sent the following that I pasted below.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Email
reply to my ad from Michael Burr:

Ha-Ha, you're
funny. There's no such thing as a "...videographist...", it's "videographer" ya' ignorant f**kwit.

--------------------------------------

For those of your who are considering him I thought that this HUGE red flag about his professionalism should be published. I mean why even do this? And attach his name to it on top of it all? Using this language is unnecessary and I cannot imagine a single real professional acting like this. Such behavior likely speaks bounds about the quality of his photos and videos, typically such nasty attitudes follow long stints of no work. Maybe he is lashing out? Sad. There are so many good videographers and photographers in LA trying to make some money and I think the public should have this review to measure his lack of
professionalism against those in the field who work harder and have better customer relations.

Its bad enough the Craigslist is such a wild west show that it is, but having this guy make it worse doesnt help anything for us trying to find a professional to work with. Very sad representation Michael Burr!

While it true that they were speculating about why you were prompted to post such a unprofessional response, I believe the heart of the matter here is the response, itself.

If that person had initially walked into your office, and asked for a "videographist", would you have equally gave them the same response, in person?   Of course not.   I've been posting on message boards for a good 15 years, and while I sometimes get irked or have a difference of opinion with someone, I'd never resort to name-calling, let alone swear words.   I mean really...  I can't imagine swearing at a stranger in any given scenario for what I simply would chalk up to a mistake of terminology.

Furthermore, I hate the term, 'videographer', anyway, as its limiting, and many who seek such a professional are not familiar with the biz, or thusly the corresponding term.   Videographist is just as valid, in my book, as videographer.  Lets be honest, its just some throw-away term some video magazine came up with, that stuck.    Your point that them using the wrong term hurts their chances of fulfilling their ad does not hold water, as you obviously found the ad, despite the term used.

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company

Unsubstantiated allegations & speculation

AUTHOR: MBPHOTOG - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 02, 2012

The person is not, nor has never been, a client of mine nor have we ever met so it is impossible for me to have ever ripped him/her off. What we have here is a severe case of overreaction to a one-sentence email. Insulting perhaps, but a rip-off? No way.

This person posted an ad on Craigslist LA using the word "videographist" not once but multiple times. This is not a word in English; the correct term is "videographer". This person took offense at my pointing this out & proceeded to file this report.

This person then goes on to engage in wild speculation, e.g., "...doesn't want to work very badly...", "...the guy off his rocker or seriously disgruntled about something.", "...long stints of no work...", "...lashing out...", "Sad", etc.. etc. etc. As we have never met this person has no idea of what my circumstances are and is therefore unqualfied to comment on them. All of these statements are pure conjecture, not facts.

As for the original CL ad the compensation section read, "Compensation: no pay" How does this person expect to attract quality talent when he/she cannot even use correct professional terminology & is not offering any money? BTW... said ad was flagged off.

We can agree on one thing however, "Its bad enough the Craigslist is such a wild west show that it is...". Yes it is. Mostly populated by bottom-feeders who are looking for something for nothing or don't want to pay a decent rate, especially for creative services.
