on June 27th, I had my car towed to Michael Tires Plus on Wooster.  I am a regular customer there.  I called them the next day, because it was dropped off after hours.   I spoke with Emily, she was not very friendly. " Oh yeah, the neon " was the response I got when I said," I am calling about my car that was dropped off last night. "

I spoke with Mike who said he would run the diagnostic on the car.  My check engine light had been on.  He called me back later that day and said the codes were saying it was the transmission - codes for 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd gear.  I was told I needed a new transmission.  I asked if they had done any other diagnostic work other than the computer to try to determine the problem.  He said no it is the transmission and you need a new one etc. My car only has 74,000 miles on it so I was a little surprised to hear I needed a whole new transmission.

I NEVER got anything in writing as to the diagnosis of the car or a written estimate.  I am a regular customer there and this seemed unusual.  Usually they give you a computer print out of the diagnosis and the cost of the repair.  Everything was done over the phone.  I should have gotten it in writing (so I accept partial responsibilty) but I was trusting this store that I had great service with in the past.

I was quoted 2400.00 for the repair.  I was also told there were 300 in" miscellaneous fees" that would be included in that $2400  that was quoted to me.  I specifically asked is that 300.00 included in that $2400?  I was told that the 300.00 in miscellaneous fees was for any "mishaps that might occur during the repair"  like a bolt that they cant get off etc.  So I am thinking, ok it might only be 2100.00.

So this is all on the 28th of June.  I am told they can't get the new tranny until the following wednesday.  July 3rd.  I am told they will have it done before closing that night.  Then later on that day I get a call - we cant get it done until Friday.  Ok.  I am being patient.  So it gets to be about 4:30 on Friday havent heard anything.  Go in there, they are working on it, still no paperwork was given to me even though I physically went in to the store.   .  7:30 that night I get a call that it is finished.

No info given to me as far as cost of repair yet or anything.  I go in Saturday morning and they show me a bill of 2900.00 !!!! 500.00 more than what I was originally quoted!!!!  I was upset and told them that is way more than what we talked about and how come I never got anything in writing on the estimate of the repair?  They did remove the additonal charges the entire cost ended up being 2568.53 with tax.

I felt it was underhanded and shady and dishonest.  I am still not even sure if my car really needed a whole new transmission due to the fact that I never saw the computer diagnostic paperwork for the vehicle.  I did not appreciate feeling like they were doing me a favor by taking off the additional charges that were never discussed with me to begin with!!!!!

This is not good business practice nor honest business practice!!!  It is legalized theft that needs to be put in check!!!!  These car repair places need more regulation to keep their business practices ethical and honest.
