Michigan Relocation Services, A-1 Modern Moving Delivered my things in 8 1/2 weeks and lost half of my belongings Livonia Michigan

The delivery of my household goods from Michigan to Colorado took 8 1/2 weeks (pickup was 5/2/07 and delivery was 7/11/07). This is totally unacceptable. Since I was told that the delivery of the goods would be no more than 2 weeks from loading, I packed what I would need for the 2 weeks but had only the 2 suitcases which the airlines allows to be checked. These items were definitely not sufficient to provide for my needs for 8 1/2 weeks.

I literally wore out the three sets of clothing packed, from wear and frequent laundering and did not have other items which were needed just to manage for that length of time. Had I any idea delivery would take so long, I would have sent the necessary items by Fed Ex before the goods were picked up.

I had marked some of the boxes which I needed when I moved to Colorado . They were being packed to be put in the front of the storage unit so they would be available. These marked boxes assumed needs within the 2 week time frame. After 8 1/2 weeks, those needs had changed and more items were needed. Although the smaller boxes were opened at my request as they were being loaded into the storage unit. Although I was allowed to look into the boxes, they were not put in the front but put wherever they fit in the storage unit while I was busy checking off the items from the inventory list.

Michigan Relocation Services (aka A-1 Modern Moving, Michigan Relocation Services) also provided the packing service, which was also badly done. The packers marked some of the boxes but few of them contained what the descriptions on the boxes said. For example, the description might say kitchen supplies but actually contained wires for my computer. This has made accessing the storage unit almost impossible.

Additionally, Michigan Relocation Services was to put some of the boxes in the front of the storage unit so I could access things. Since the boxes were incorrectly marked and boxes which did not contain items I need now, I had to remove the front two layers of boxes on one day, see what was in the boxes, and put them back. (Note that the storage unit was packed to its limit of 20' by 10' so a layer is a one to two rows of boxes and items which were 20' by 10'). Then I had to remove the front layer on the second day and then the second layer. Both the first and the second layer then had to be returned to the storage unit. The third day was the same but now there were three layers to be removed and returned. It was very difficult for a 63 year old woman and somewhat dangerous since I almost fell several times.

I could get no further and therefore did not get many of the things I really needed, such as my medical records, records and contact information for other companies I had to work with, e.g., insurance companies, Michigan house sale, new home purchase records for Colorado , etc.

Since I have complicated and severe medical problems, it was a scary situation when I am not able to provide my medical information to my new Colorado doctors.

I had an opportunity to work with my daughter (help her) in her business but couldn't because I could not get at my computer.

Just to make matters worse, I very much need to work and cannot get hired by anyone in Colorado without having a social security card, birth certificate, or passport which, of course, are in the back of the storage unit.

Having 6 1/2 more weeks (after the original information stating it would be no more than two weeks) to do without my belongings put such terrible stress on me I was close to a breakdown. Significant unavailable items currently include, but are not limited to, legal documents, files of bills and receipts, medical records, clothing, personal items, and my computer.

As I needed things, I was forced to buy them when they were already available in the packed items. One example would be my curling iron and hair dryer. Not inexpensive, but needed, so I had to buy new ones. The list gets much more expensive when you consider just the small things, such as shampoo and other personal items, soap, laundry items, etc. I estimate that the replacement cost is at least $150.00

This situation is the most unbelievable nightmare I have ever experienced. Inconvenience is an understatement of what they have put me through. They should truly be ashamed of the poor performance of this company.

I was charged $2,595.40 for your moving service and packing and feel that they should provide some compensation for the horrific nightmare they have put me through and am still going through.

They are not only incompetent, they are crooks. I intend to be persistent
