Several posts mention that Pete Spaziano was referred by www.reliableremodeler.com. I am curious to know if he was referred to all of you as Mid Florida Contracting or did he just show up out of nowhere? By what business name did he present himself and how many of you are senior citizens.

In 2007 my mother contacted www.reliableremodeler.com for referrals. They referred a local company in her area and Clay Wyatt at Clay Construction (no phone, no address provided). The next day, before she had a chance to contact either, Pete Spaziano showed up at her house. He told her he received her name from "the internet". She assumed he was the 3rd referral from www.reliableremodeler.com and let him in. Her story is the same as every other story on this website. He presented an estimate, talked his talk, gained her trust, she paid a deposit and he never returned. After 5 months, hundreds of phone calls and immeasurable stress, she recovered her money. However, she is still, after 1 years, being pursued by an equipment rental company for an item rented by Pete but never paid for. As with everyone else on this site, Pete was elusive, rude and verbally abusive. He used the brain tumor, IRS and "the items are on back order at the factory" excuses as well.

After much research, one item I have discovered is that Pete registered under at least two additional false business names with www.reliableremodeler.com. They sent leads to the number/address of the false business name then Pete contacted the customer as Mid Florida Contracting. By representing himself as Mid Florida Contracting, a customer would make no connection to the false business. When I spoke to a supervisor at www.reliableremodeler.com last summer, I was informed that they had become aware of his practice and had terminated him. They would not sign him again. However, Annette from Orlando posted comments on 12/21/2007 indicating www.reliableremodeler.com once again referred him. This referral company claims to "personally know each of our contractors and the type of work they do". However, they continued to enroll the same man with the same phone number over and over. While it is the customer's responsibility to verify a license when they hire a contractor, I would think a responsible referral company would verify a license at least once at the time of enrollment. I was informed by the above supervisor that www.reliableremodeler.com does not retain data on any terminated company and therefore could not supply evidence of an attempt to verify and validate any of the company names that Pete used. I cannot say that www.reliableremodeler.com is not a valid company, but I believe them to be unprofessional, irresponsible and questionable. The false company names are: Mid Florida Contracting, Clay Construction and Madden Construction. I have made several attempts to contact Clay and Madden at the phone numbers provided by www.reliableremodeler.com, but have been unsuccessful.

Please read Greg Dawson's column in the Orlando Sentinel. He has been reporting on Pete Spaziano for the last several years. His latest column regarding Pete was printed April 5, 2007. Apparently, Pete is now presenting himself as Steel City Contracting. Does anyone else see the irony in the company name?

My mother has washed her hands of Pete Spaziano, but I have not. I have documented our experience and filed a detailed report with supporting documents to the Florida Attorney General, the DBPR, BBB, IC3, FTC, Lakeland Police, Polk County Sheriff, Orange County Consumer Fraud Unit and the Osceola County Sheriff's Office. Whether you have filed charges against Pete Spaziano or not, I urge you to document your experience and report him to your local law enforcement. Although my mother does not live in two of the counties listed above, I still provided each with the information. I suspect they will all have cases on Pete Spaziano sooner or later. The more information they receive and the more familiar they become with his name, the better the chance to stop him.
