First of all, they did take this "debt" they have not proven is mine, and put it against my credit report.  I called the agency, and all their representatives are outsourced from India, and you can hardly understand them.  Even thought the debt is not validated, I offered a settlement just to have it removed from my credit report.  They would not take the settlement.  The bill was $400, and they would only take $200, and not a penny less.  I cant believe agencies like this are allowed to ruin people's credit with unvalidated debts, and it is legal!!!  This company needs to be shut down and audited.

Several Observations Here

AUTHOR: IamGood - (USA)

1.  If the debt was not yours, instead of offering to pay , "Just to get it off your credit report", why didnt you contact the credit reporting agencies and dispute the debt with them.  They would have made the agency provide proof within 30 days that the debt was yours.  Case Closed.

2.  After you made a offer to pay a "reasonable" settlement on the debt, you basically validated their claim that the debt was indeed yours.  Now your statute of limitations period has been reset from the day that you made them the offer, as well as now making it IMPOSSIBLE to dispute the debt with the credit reporting agencies.

3.  I am curious what your "reasonable " settlement offer was.  When they want a min. 200.00 settlement, your offer must have been far below that.

In closing, I do think the debt was yours, and you know it, you are just going to try to get by on a technicality.  But now your actions of making a settlement has indeed "Validated " the debt, allowing them to proceed with further action if necessary.
