I had a credit card with MBNA that was closed in 2003. While checking my credit bureau I found a collection from Midland Credit. It was from the MBNA card. I then called MBNA with the account number that was in the credit report. That stated that no money was owed, and this account number never existed.
I then called Midland Credit and asked them to validate the charge. They very rudely replied "they don't validate accounts." It is obvious they have no signed paperwork to prove their claim.
I would like to know why the credit bureau allows scam artist like Midland Credit to enter information that they cannot validate? They are doing a great disservice to the comunity by letting these people place anything they like on a public record.

Funny that you have a rude response from someone that lives in San Diego. I filed a report against MCM recently and had the exact same thing happen. They must have employees that devote their time to doing rebuttals. I too have requested that MCM validate their claim and they refuse to do so. One response that I have gotten is "we have over 2 million accounts, what you think we have a big huge filing cabinet". They basically admitted that they don't have proof yet they still send letters demanding payment in full.
These losers need to go back to college and get a real job like the rest of us. Quit wasting your time and get an attorney to handle this for you.

What if Midland sends as "proof" a computer printout showing something like?
John Smith, account #: xxx-xxx-458 balance due: $3,745
Of course the only thing this proves is that they have a word processor and a printer...yet, as I stated above, the credit bureaus will often consider this proof validation as they don't want to spend time and money investigating debt that will cause their profits to drop.

John,
You wrote:

You have the right to request proof of what validation was sent and by whom. You have to request this in writing.
Most of the time the "validation" is just automated. A real person never sees it.

Midland Credit is a scam company. I asked them to validate the account, and they could not. The account was paid through CCA in 2003. I have reported Midland to the FTC, the BBB, and the attorney general. With any luck you will end up in prison with your fellow scammers from Enron and the like.

You need to contact all three credit bureaus directly instead of Midland to have this incorrect info validated.
Your question: I would like to know why the credit bureau allows scam artist like Midland Credit to enter information that they cannot validate?
Because the credit bureaus like Equifax are MUCH more concerned about their profit than the accuracy of the info they report about you. It costs them time and money to accurately report information and they don't want to expend either of these....so when scam companies like Midland add negative info to a credit file they put the info in "as is" without giving any thought or concern to the consequences such incorrect info can have on the end consumer.
Often you have to force the credit bureaus to abide by the terms of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. If the credit bureaus come back and say that they validated the debt from Midland...you have a problem.

and midland credit is at fault for what? F.Y.I. for all, many creditors delete their trade line from your credit report when they sell your acct. If you call them they will usually refer you to whoever they sold the debt to but won't give you any info about the debt. Once they sell your debt, they don't want you tying up their phone lines, so whatever gets you off the phone....
