Mr. Leven, what has happened to your medical office?

Dr. Lee, do you not remember our non profit organization sending hundreds of patients, at a time when you were sitting in a fold-out chair on the side of the street on Wilton Drive, passing out your business cards, looking for new patients? Sanctuary House sent hundreds, in keeping with working with local providers for our clients and our community.

I was a patient of Midland Medical and under the care of a doctor that I built a strong relationship with, Dr. Noah Lee, M.D. After several years as a patient, I was informed that I would no longer be a patient due to my insurance company dropping the medical office as a provider. My appointment was canceled/rescheduled. Less than a week later, the medical front office called to remind me of an appointment. When I called to inquire why I would have an appointment when we just concluded that my insurance would not pay. I was told that, in fact, they would continue to the end of that particular month. After arriving, I was again told that it would have to be rescheduled.

Since I was happy with my medical care, I chose to seek the advise of the front office for the name of a suitable replacement for my insurance company, that the doctor's office accepted. At that time, I was told "Any Humana, we will accept". With that information, I quickly selected Humana Medicare Advantage Plan. Additionally, I purchased the exact insurance for my husband. After the initial waiting period, I again made appointments for both myself and my spouse.

After showing up at the office, it was explained to us both, that they did not take Humana, any longer. Feeling very discouraged, we were left to find a doctor that would accept our Humana. NO such animal. No doctors to choose from, horrible office conditions for the few offices within acceptable driving distance. But we managed to skirt by, waiting for open enrollment to begin, as to switch to an insurance company that our family doctor would accept.

We began more than two months in advance dealing with two individuals by the names of Brad and Greg at Midland Medical Center. I asked them to write out the exact Blue Cross policy that they accepted.

The first day of open enrollment, we were signed up for our new insurance. The following day, I placed a call and was given appointments for both of us, a month in advance. I received the automated reminder call the day before; and went one step further to call and confirm. After arriving and signing in, I was informed that I was being "discharged" as a patient due to "7 rescheduled appointments" over a two year period, even though it had already been almost a year absent of our doctor's care, bringing the total time to almost three years.

Only one of the inflated-numbered appointments were actually true. The remaining debacle was nothing more than incompetence of the office staff that was handling appointments,.... which by the time we returned, eight months later, there was only one original person that had been there, originally.

After speaking to both Brad and Greg before leaving without being seen, I asked, "Why didn't someone at least call me and let me know that I was no longer welcome?" The response from Brad was simply, "The doctor saw your name this morning and said he would not see you." So, basically, I was discharged for the very same thing that I was accused of doing. Making an appointment and then being bailed on.

Before leaving the office, I explained to this front office worker that I had timed my medication refill with my appointment to preserve the continuity of my medications and needed refills, as well as a possible cancerous growth on my leg that had me very worried. At that time, I was assured that the office worker would talk to the doctor the following morning, "after he's calmed down" and at the very least, get me in to see the physician's assistant to take a look at my leg and the medication refills. I will call you in the morning, Brad said. No call came. After repeated attempts to reach the office though out the morning, Brad simply said, "Why do you want to see a doctor that doesn't want to see you?"

I was appalled by his answer and the end result was no prescription refills for a chronic health condition. However, what I found more shocking was their explanation that "I can't ask the doctor right now, he's in a bad mood". That was a direct quote. Since when does my health care depend on ANYONE'S mood??? Talking about a complete lack of professionalism, not to mention that little known attribute known as compassion.

The second office worker, as he stood, sweating and stumbling over his words, claimed that the doctor has become so popular and no longer sees anyone that he does not care to. Wow,,,, well, enjoy the ride, Dr. Lee, because with the tension in that office, between employees, it strongly suggests that the wonderful office that I was happy at has died a horrible death; and transformed into nothing but a revolving door of unhappy folks and a considerable number of complaints. I have heard a number of similar complaints at our local Java Boys Cafe' and I was the one defending your office.  Well, guess that makes it egg on my face. What a disappointing thought that such a wonderful reputation went belly up in such a short epriod of time.

If you need further proof of how you are perceived, you need not look any further than the gossip of every pharmacy on Wilton Drive. Also, to answer your question Brad, I wasn't looking to see a doctor that didn't want to see me, I wanted to make sure I did not go without mandatory medication.

Somehow, the following day when you were supposed to call me and didn't, the fact that the medication was my main concern and was never mentioned by you, once.... speaks volumes about the concern that was supposed to be there.  Guess It's all about the $$ now.

I did notice one thing that was missing from your updated office, a cash register. I certainly, before leaving, expected to hear the ring of one and the handling of change.

Shame on you all for stringing my family along, luring me to your office, so you could simply tell me to leave, especially considering the vast majority of the "reschedules" were self-inflicted by a staff, ill equipted to deal with what appears to be an extensive amount of stress to "get em in and get em out".

May your prosperity be brief and the lesson from it learned hard. Every single one of you, in that office should bow your heads in absolute shame at your conduct, lack of professionalism, and complete disregard for my health concerns over anyone's "MOOD". No worries, Noah, I forked out the money to see an urgent care doctor to make sure someone was looking after my health needs, in the short term. What a radical change in only 7 or 8 months. I'm sure the gossip around The Drive about the ill treatment of patients will continue.
