This is an unfortunate story and I hope no one will have to go through this.

I was on my way from Miami FL to Bloomington IN. I was going back to Indiana University. After 500 miles from Miami my car broke on I-75. I called Allstate and they contacted local towers for me. The company they found was Mike Fraser's. As i found out that towing company has its own shop. So they towed me there. Towing was paid by allstate.

Since I know cars very well, I knew what is wrong with my car. So instead of asking him whats wrong with my car, I told him that I need to have my fuel pump replaced ( it was easy guess for me since i heard whining sounds from it right before). The price quotas he gave me was way to expensive for my knowledge and budget-$400 for pump and than labor costs. But the biggest problem was that i would have to wait one day for him to get that part. Giving the fact i was already late to school and missed a lot of classes, I couldnt lose another day. I walked to downtown area, ate a breakfast and than went to every car parts store in that city. It took me about 4 hours, but I found what i needed and for $250! I was very happy and called mechanic and told him that i got the part, and he can do it today. After that things started turning bad.

He informs me that the labor will be more now since i bought my own part. (i wonder why). By more he ment more than $150. At that time i completely lost interest in doing any business with him and called allstate to dispatch another truck to tow me from him. I found a place that would fix it the same day and much cheaper.

Things get uglier as we go. Towing truck shows up at Mike Fraser's, and i am ready to leave, but.... The owner comes out and tells me "You owe me $55 for a shop fee!" Wait a second... What shop fee?- i said. He stated that he spent time on me and now I owed him money. I was shocked. Nobody has TOUCHED my car! I have the key , car is locked. Now some of you might have heard some dishonest mechanics charging "diagnostic fee", but "shop fee"???

I called police. Little did i know that his wonderful relationship with the sheriff. Every police office talked to him like a friend to a friend. They told me that if i wanted my car, i had to give him whatever he asked me! THANKS CORDELE POLICE DEPARTMENT!!! They send me to court but no one wanted to do anything. They informed me of my rights to file a lawsuit, but that means not getting my car, unless i pay him. The judge sent me to a church to beg for money!

People and businesses like that will tear up USA from the inside. You dont need terrorists for that!

MIKE FRAZER TOWING AND REPAIR

AUTHOR: TRUTH - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, April 03, 2012

I can't say the reporter is lying because they do work with the police and charge you out the butt for such little terrible work. Every body knows frazers only treat certain people with respect. "WINK WINK" Everything bad goes bad and Frazers Auto and towing is going bad. Lucky they have the law on there side. They may last a little longer than most. Either way the will probably in up in hell for cheating innocent hard working people out of there money. Just stop and think and be honest Frazer's auto.

"If you had to get a church to pay the $55, how were you possibly going to pay (much more) to have this car fixed??"

They weren't planning on PAYing anything. The OP is a typical Floridiot who believes mechanics should work for FREE. I dealt with them every day for 4 years. The OP wanted someone to diagnose the problem, and then wave goodbye. Notice the OP went parts shopping while wasting the shop's time?

I have actually had to have my car worked on at the same shop while traveling and they did a good job and treated me fair. I can't say I know the situation, but this all seems like more of a misunderstanding or maybe just frustration than a rip off. I use to work for an Auto Shop and we charged $75.00 to run a diagnostics test. People called that a rip off because they could get a OBD-II scan at autozone for free, but we tested a little more than that $200.00 autozone scanner does. Hope you both can come to an understanding on this.

Amazing, aren't I?

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, March 28, 2009

It's amazing how I can figure out how things work without actually being involved personally. I knew the Floridiot from Miami was a scammer, and the reputable owner of the shop he tried to scam has provided proof. He pretty much posted what I assumed as the case.

Too bad for the scammers. Shop owners know you all too well. The tow truck driver knew how the world works too. that's why he did not attempt to remove the vehicle before it was paid for. If he had, he'd be arrested for auto theft.

I happened to read your response to my report, Mr.Fraser. And you must have some nerves. You are at least twice my age if not 3 times , yet you are lying like a teenage boy. Why did you even bother writing a paragraph? Now that I think of it, it wasnt that big of a deal that you wanted to get some easy money out of me... just dont pretend to be a saint...its pathetic.

Guess what, you're wrong! #1 I have picked up my own parts for my car and taken them to a local dealership more times then i can count. They had NO problem letting me do this and only charged me labor.

Diagnosis? If the company didn't look at the vehicle how do they know what's wrong with it?

Another scamming mechanic!

Good Business not Rip-Off

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 19, 2008

I am the owner of Fraser's Auto and just found out about this report being listed. As you know there are always two sides to every story and this is my side. First of all I am sorry that Mr. Melkumov feels that he was treated unfairly. At around 7:30 am I recieved a call from a motor club that had a customer on I75 around mile marker 92 in need of assistance with an Audi that had broken down. The motor club stated that the car had a bad transmission and would not move. I told them that with that type vehicle if it had transmission trouble it would probably be best to tow it to an Audi Dealer, the nearest one being located in Albany or Macon, Georgia. The company gave me the customers cell phone number so I could find out more information from him. Upon speaking to Mr. Melkumov it was found that the engine would not run. I stated to him that it could be a bad fuel pump, blown fuse or an ignition problem that could cause this and we could tow him to our shop and check the car out for him and he agreed.

When Mr.Melkumov and his car arrived at the shop he wanted to know how much a fuel pump would cost and how much we would charge for checking his vehicle. We called all over town trying to find a fuel pump for his Audi A4 with no luck. I told him that I would have to order a fuel pump if that was the problem and he wanted me to check with sources out of town to try and locate a pump and we did with no luck. The pump would have to be ordered and installed the next day if that was the problem. I gave him an estimated price of $500 for the part, labor, diagnostics and shipping. Mr.Melkumov said to check the car out and if we found something besides the fuel pump to call him. He and his girlfiend left to walk up town.

I checked the computer system and found a diagnostic code stating that the car had a lean oxygen sensor. I then checked the fuel pressure on the vehicle, it had none. I checked all fuses and circuits and concluded that the fuel pump was bad. At this time we ordered the fuel pump.

Around 2 hours later Mr. Melkumov called and said he had found a fuel pump and it would be here between 6pm and 9pm. I told him that my hours were from 8am to 5:30pm and it would be best to wait until the next morning to install the part. I did tell him that for $55 per hour after 5:30 I would stay open to get him back on the road. His phone went dead. About 30 minutes later a tow truck showed up from another company wanting to pickup the Audi. I told him he needed to pay the diagnostic shop time of $55. The keys to the car were in my office and Mr.Melkumov came in and picked up the keys and said he would not pay the bill. I told the tow truck driver that the bill needed to be paid before he leftwith the car. Mr Melkumov got mad and he and his girlfriend call me several names and she called the police. When the officer arrived I told him about the situation. Mr. Melkumov told the police that where he was from if you don't fix the car you don't get paid. Mr. Melkumov went to a church asking for help and let them pay the $55 fee for him and the tow truck towed the vehicle off. $55 is not an unfair charge for the amount of time and effort that I put into his cause but again I am sorry for his frustrations.

POSTED: Monday, January 21, 2008

Dear Mr. Fraser or one of his rotten mouth employees,
Do you actually justify your actions? I thought that at least the pastor would put you in a right place. You should all be ashamed of yourself, and stop thinking that I wasted your time. Thats absurd. I didnt! God knows I didnt! For what I did, you got paid for. You wasted my time! So much time! I want to get compensated for that. In fact, due to your unchanged behavior, I decided to invest some money in a lawyer and get you schooled a bit on ethics and morality. Now I want to be compensated for my time and my nerves. Prepare your defense well my friends, because we shall see each other soon!

Total RipOff

AUTHOR: Joey C. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 21, 2008

This shop is clearly trying to take advantage of an out of state driver who is broke down. The shop owner knows the driver can't fix the problem himself so he knows he can charge whatever he wants. There is a difference between a shop fee and a diagnostic fee. A diagnostic fee is charged when the shop does a diagnostic check on the vehicle to determine what is wrong with the car. Since there was no check done by the shop there shouldn't be a fee charged for one. An example of a shop fee would be charging a customer a certain fee for the vehicle being left there while waiting on the bill to be paid. Obviously the shop was paid the tow fee and then wanted to take advantage of the motorist who was stranded.

Pay the fee

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 17, 2008

You can make up different versions of the story all you want. Your car was at his shop. You wasted his time. He's charging you for it. Giving you an estimate took time. Time is money. NOBODY tows a vehicle in that doesn't run and parks it on a street so they can push it in the shop. It was dropped on the parking lot. He's billing you for wasting his time. The cops don't believe you. Nether did the Magistrate.

Simple enough. Pay your bill.

Robert, you are obviously a very absurd character. Diagnostic fee is not shop fee. Did you not understand what i wrote? I have not wasted their time, since all i asked for is a price quote. Your response is so ridiculous that i begin to question if you have even read the whole story i wrote. How did you come up with the fact they ordered me the best part and not the cheapest??? hahaha you must be kidding me. I wont even comment the rest of your babbling. You think thats how business should function, then i am affraid you are 10000 miles away from your heaven- Russia!

Another genius

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, January 13, 2008

The "shop fee" IS the Diagnostic fee. You wasted their time, and they deserve to be paid.

What do you do for a living? I see you are in school. Here's a suggestion. Take a class on economics. You will discover businesses are in business to make PROFIT.

The store you found the pump at was doing this. They marked the part up by at least 300%, not the 50%-75% the repair shop did. Who ripped you off now? The best part(pardon the pun) of this is the shop ordered the BEST pump available, not the CHEAPest(which is what you got), and why they would have to wait a day to get it. All shops add to the labor when the customer provides their own parts. Labor is subsidized by parts markup.

Just curious...what other businesses do you do this too? Do you take food to a restaurant for them to cook and serve you? How about the myriad of other service related businesses?

The only ripoff here was you wasting, or attempting to waste the time of a shop owner and his/her mechanic. Only this time(those puns again), it bit you.
