My mother-in-law took her basically perfect car she had just bought to Mike's Car Wash to get washed. She bought their most expensive Works Wash for nearly $18. After I got home that day I glanced at her car and I was shocked to see that the moulding had been torn mostly off and was ground into the roof. There were several circular scratches down to through the paint and into the metal. I asked her what happened, and she said she took it to Mike's Car Wash at Glenbrook earlier that day. So we went to Mike's to file a report, and they made us fill out a form. The guy said he didn't think it was their machine because the scratches were circular. Let's see, their machine has cloth scrubbers which MOVE IN CIRCULAR PATTERNS yet he didn't think they would make circular scratches? Clearly not the sharpest knife in the drawer. So we asked if we could view the video (Yes, Mike's records each car washing but not for the customer's protection) and they said NO. Of course, because if they had let us view the video it would have been the proof that the scratches were NOT there before the wash. So anyway we filed the report and waited for a reply. Much to our dismay we received a letter weeks later from Mike's corporate saying they were not going to own up to this damage, and instead included three free wash passes for us. I don't know what they expect me to do with those, maybe give them to my worst enemy so they can get their car trashed too? I also tried the BBB and they were no help either, clearly Mike's has a long history of victimizing customers and fighting them through the BBB so they are very well trained at getting out of it. Needless to say we are NEVER going back to Mike's, we chalk it up to a $800 learning experience. We are sharing this in hopes that other people are not victimized similarly. Obviously not every car that goes through their car wash will be damaged, but we pity those who do because we know how it feels to be victimized while Mike's throws their hands up.

They always like to say things were per existing or things like that. I worked for them in Westfield and saw it all the time. That is kind of why I left and got a real job.

I am an associate at Mike's. I do not work at that particular location.I understand the frustration you have, I know I would be absolutely furious myself if that happened to me. I do want to tell you though, we obviously did not intensionally harm your mother's vehicle. My assumption as to what happened with the molding is with the manufacturer's glue. The cheap quality of glue used, by many different manufacturers, is not strong enough to hold up. This is not to say the wash is too powerful, if the wind gets to strong or some punk teenager pulls at it, it will come off. It is fixable though.

Ruined Roof:
All the full service car washes I have ever been to have a sign that they are not responsible for damages to your car that occur during the process of detailing your car.
If there is a sign at Mike's Car Wash, then you are out of luck, unless you choose to take them to court. But they will just refer to the posted sign.
They will argue that if you did not like the terms of the contract, then you should not have engaged in it.
