In September 2006, I purchased a platinum Diana Classic ring from Milanj Diamonds at the King of Prussia Mall in KoP, PA. I waited three weeks to receive it and went in and picked it up. I did not expect that I would need to be a professional jeweler myself to purchase jewelry, because I am finding out the ring was actually white gold! I took it for an appraisal for insurance and the appraiser told me the ring was white gold, not platinum. My invoice says platinum, the price was for the platinum...

I call the store and speak to Gerald, who seems surprised. He says to bring in my ring and he'll check the records and compare it to the ring I have. I go in to the store after work on March 30, 2009 and speak with David Mazer, the "Director of Stores." His e-mail is david@milanjdiamonds.com. He looks in the inside of the ring and says the ring is white gold and my invoice in their computer system says it should be platinum. Gerald is also there and takes a measurement of my finger to make sure the fit will be good on the replacement I think they're going to order for me. David says he'll start looking through the records on Tuesday after lunch and that he doesn't need my white gold ring until he gets the platinum one in.

Friday... still nothing from David, so I call and he informs me he will start working on this today. He has done nothing! I explain to him that when I was there face-to-face with him he promised me this was a priority and now that I'm out of the store, I'm another sucker they tricked into paying for a platinum ring and gave them a white gold one hoping they wouldn't catch on. It took two-and-a-half years, but I caught on. Check your jewelry if you purchased it from Milanj... they probably gave you a cubic zirconia! Beware this merchant!

Milanj made it right...

AUTHOR: Nomoremilanj - (U.S.A.)

I did receive a response to my inquiry from David at Milanj Jewelers and he made it right. I went last night to give back the white gold ring I received erroneously when the original purchase was made and was given a correctly marked platinum band of the exact same design. David and the rest of the staff was very professional and handled this matter well after my original posting. I did receive a sincere letter from David offering me a discount as he mentioned also.

I now understand this was not something done intentionally, but was a mistake and I should not have been so naive to accept what was given to me without questioning. Milanj will take care of the situation if one should arise.

Sad Story

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

Been in the business 25+ years. I know a jeweler who was working at a local store. The owner has a ring, with diamonds, in white gold, in the shop that the customer wants in platinum. The owner told the customer he would order the ring in platinum. What does the store owner do? He has the jeweler cut the shank(bottom of the ring) off and solder a platinum shank onto the white gold "head". What a scum bag. The shank was stamped platinum and as far as the customer knew, He got a platinum ring. What a rip. Know your jeweler.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this report.

My name is David Mazer, and I am the Director of Stores for Milanj Diamonds. For personal references, please feel free to view my Linkedin page, where I have been privileged to have received numerous recommendations.

The writer, who made a purchase prior to my association with Milanj Diamonds, definitely has a white gold ring, with a receipt that shows his having purchased a platinum ring.

Having spent an entire lifetime in retail, I have read many a report of unscrupulous merchants looking to prey on unwary consumers. In that very same period of time, I have, also, learned that the opposite exists. As much as we preach that the client is always correct, reality shows this not always being the case. My concern, very simply, was with such an extended period of time that the client did not realize the ring not being platinum, as he properly bought and paid for, might the client had lost his ring, or had it stolen, and was now attempting to have Milanj Diamonds make him whole, as it were.

Within 48 hours, the principal and I made the decision that we would never know what happened, and that what did, or did not, happen mattered not. We immediately ordered the writer a brand new ring, in platinum, of course, as he purchased. Additionally, we offered to hand-engrave the new ring at no expense to him, along with a coupon for a future accommodation on his next piece of fine jewelry.

Should we have immediately acquiesced, and ordered a new ring? I do not know; what I do know is we are, and have, ordered a brand new ring for the writer, making him whole some 3 years later.

Once again, thank you for the opportunity to respond to this writer. The service you provide is a stalwart one, one that all merchants and consumers should be appreciative of.

Sincerely,

David M.
