MindLance Taking Advantage of the Unemployed in Ohio Hoboken New Jersey

These purported "recruiters" reached out to me in November, regarding a possible contract job in Mason, Ohio (Cincinnati metro area).  I was skeptical at first, unsure how a New Jersey company had information on employmet in Ohio, but this is the digital age, and everyone uses the Internet, so it's possible.  After a phone interview with them and their client, they claimed I had been selected for a in-person interview.  

In the days prior to this, I became ill with a raging fever that lead to a week of fatigue.  To keep others from getting sick, I asked for a re-scheduled time.  They insisted I go to this interview--despite still not being well--because they claimed their client might not give me another time.

Still sputtering from my illness, I showed up at half my usual speed.  The client dropped the ball completely: the front-desk security couldn't find the person I was supposed to interview with on their computers, and I didn't even interview with that person.  Instead, I interviewed with an assistant who was not at all prepared to see me.

A week after the interview, I reached out to the recruiters to find my status on the job.  I was told by a person claming to be a colleague that my contact person was "on leave" and would get back to me.  To date, that has not happened.

So, here's what you learn from this:

• Any client that doesn't allow for re-schedule is not interested in the person as an individual contributor to their organization's mission.  They are interested in filling a "slot."  That should be an instant red flag for all job seekers.
• A recruiter must admit defeat as well as success.  Shying away from your prospect because you feel he/she will be angry with you is unacceptable.  Step up, take your beating, and don't let failure happen again.  Your prospect is depending on you for employment, and failure is not an option.
• Finally, while diversity should be sought in most endeavors, communication is still critical, and spoken English must not be left to people who do not have a firm grasp of that concept.  I have no idea from where my contact hailed, but I can only presume it was not a place where English was the native language.

After my experiences with this recruiter and others in the Dayton and Cincinnati metro areas, I must discourage all job seekers from attempting to find jobs through any employment agency, regardless of size.  They don't have the clients, their clients don't have the jobs, and the rest of us are getting ripped off.
