I took my 92 year old mother in for hearing aids. She was given a hearing test and the representative suggested the model he thought was best, $4500.00 The hearing aids never fit her ears even after numerous trips to have them filed down. My mother could never get them in and when asked why she would say I don't need to hear anyone. Someone would always try to put them in for her but finally she would take them out and one by one she lost them. I went back and told Miracle Ear the situation and he said he would have another one made for her. He knew that situation about the fit and he said he would make something work for her. Of course this costs me $500.00. The same on came in The same problem, couldn't get it to fit. I wrote to consumer affairs and they referred me to another Miracle Ear. We made an appt for her to visit my mothers residence and she tried to say that wax was some of the cause of my mothers hearing problem. I have had wax stop up my ear and I could still hear. The rep did get it in and it kept squealing so she said she would take it back to the store and do something to it and would call me.. 3 wks went by before she called. I went in to pick it up and she was very rude told me to sign in and sit down. After a few minutes a patient came in and she rushed out to bring him in and never said another word to me. I left. I've heard so many complaints about Miracle Ear I wish someone would do a class action suit against them.

I am very sorry that you have went through this,it is not fair to your mother, and I am sure you all are very frustrated.

It sounds like the model that they suggested just is not working, and she probably needs either a different model of the same size or a Behind the ear hearing aid, which should be easier for her to get in and out,and it is much more powerful.

Wax does affect hearing aids,I am sorry that the person did not explain that to you.
What happens is since hearing aids are so small, the wax will get into the receiver and clog it up. If the Hearing Specialist is not able to get all of the wax out, then it should be sent to our factory to replace the receiver.

What I tell my patients is to have their doctor remove the wax,and keep the ears clean,so this does not happen.

Also,it is very hard for us to have "walk in" patients that have no appointments. The reason is because we do schedule appointments every hour,or every 30 minutes, not giving us a break in between.

I try to have my patients always schedule an appointment so that I know I am able to spend enough time needed with them.

Bottom line is this: She can't hear, and she is frustrated because of that. She is frustrated that she can't get the aids in,and therefore she has given up. When we are dealing with our elderly parents,we have to be patient and try to help them.

Call your office and make an appointment.
If you want, ask them to have their district manager come in on that day.
Stay there with your mom,and have them show her how to put the aids in,using a mirror and do not leave until you both feel comfortable with the situation.

I wish you the best of luck, and please update us on your outcome.
