A Forever Recovery is unprofessional, misleading and possibly a mere money scam that preys on the emotions of those desperately seeking help for their loved ones.

I am a recent "client" who signed myself AMA after only TWO days in their "detox clinic"   It is an old, paint chipped two story small house. The 'bed' my friend paid 2000.00 to hold for me was a bunk bed. There were two sets of bunk beds in a room probably no larger than an average small bedroom.   They would place 4 women in this room if they had the clientele.

The small shared  shower off the kitchen was filthy with rusted drain and  active spider webs.  When I asked to talk with my friend and tell her this facility was not what it was represented to be, I was not allowed to leave the porch of the detox hut.

I wanted to tell her  about the conditions, and to cancel or stop payment, but I was not allowed this opportunity.

The Doctors who staff the program are not on site and have a private practice in town.  I was driven to this physician and given a cursory exam.

The Program Director - knew I was unhappy and was probably not going to stay. I later found out the Intake  ( Sales) person called my friend several times saying that ( although she was originally told she had 7 days from the time of my arrival to pay) -- it was now imperative that she sign a lengthy contract ( that they faxed to her office) and that they now needed  ASAP --  ALL 7 days of detox fees up front - by CREDIT card.

For my own safety I finally left AMA and thus had my cell phone returned to me so I could call my friend and tell her what was going on.

It was however  too late.  She paid the 7 days up front, (675.00 per day) plus the orginal 2000.00 bed hold.  ( Another non refundable fee)

At this time she is pursuing  a refund for the 5 days I did not receive services, but of course, no one is returning her calls and at this time A Forever Recovery holds a total of approximatley 7500.00 of her money for two days of my little "camp out" in the detox hut.

By the way - the main facility is also bunk beds, housing 4- 6 clients.  The woman's wing I saw  was dirty, the walls sadly in need of paint and the floors dirty.

If you notice from their web site or brochure - all the pictures are of the lobby, the lake or a few meeting rooms.  VERY misleading.

** Please do a quick internet research  of the owner of the facility -- Mr. Per Wickstrom -- and draw your own conclusions. **

The contract my friend  was pressured to sign states she cannot seek refund, sue , nor even make any disparaging remarks about the facility.  I however, am under no obligation as I was not a voluntary enrollee and signed no legal responsibility documents.

Unless some suitable arrangment can be made and my friend is refunded all services paid for but NOT provided, then I intend to bring this matter to the attention of the Attorney General of Michigan.

As for my own satisfaction and to keep others from falling prey to the misleading advertising ,  and unprofesional  / poor services provided by A Forever Recovery - I hope to tell more of my story and experiences through a variety of venues.

This is NOT an ACCREDITED  Rehab facility.  It has a State license to operate. That is all.

As someone who was in profesonal, accredited facilities in my past - I honestly do not know how they are allowed to continue to operate in the fashion they do.

The aides and nurses were all very nice and kind and patient and I believe they do have the alcoholic/addicts needs at heart.

However, the administration is ( in my opinion)  just a sales team and operation that has found very good and easy money can be made in private Rehab and cleverly written legal contracts.

'Stop your addict' from going to A Forever Recovery.

Seek Accredited Centers. Get outside referrals.  Research thoroughly.

We sent our son here in June of 2005. We gave them 25,000.00 up front. They charged us 5000 extra because our son was coming in with a broken jaw. The wires came off and they never took him to the hospital. His jaws did not heal right. He lasted 2 weeks and hicked hiked home to West Chester, Pa

Are you reading all this?

Hope so.

Because in your haste to draw your "no talk" conrtact, you have "can" rather than "cannot".  Check your copy as I am sure you know who I am.

Let's see our day in court. Shall we?

It's not me.

It's all those other vulnerable people.

I will not rest, until you cease!

Glad Miss Fortune has taken an interest.

Glad the Michigan Atty has taken an interest.

I am very sorry to learn about your brother's unfortunate experiences at "A Forever Recovery."

It is "A Forever Money Scam" and I do not understand why the Attorney General has not been notified.  I simply cannot fathom why Per Wickstom has been able to continuing running ANY business in the state of Michigan, much less a "medical" facility.

I too was "driven to a hotel" . Wickstom himself was quite angry at me for stirring the pot with his other clients. He was going to drive me himself, but thankfully ( for both of us) he gave the keys to his Hummer - and me- to the care of another employee. So I got a ride out in the company Hummer.

The first hotel they tried to drop me off at was in an area known as "crack town".  I only knew this by asking a gas station attendant when we stopped for gas. The driver realized he'd "been had" and drove me futher into a safer part of town.

I was lucky because I was an adult with resources and a credit card to eventually get myself back home.  Evidently they do this hotel thing a lot with their young clients, hoping they wil get into trouble and have to return to the facility.

It is not only UNethical. It is dangerous.  Someday an "unruly/protesting" client will be dropped at a hotel and die .   WHY is the Attorney General waiting for this to happen?

Again, I am very sorry about your financial loss and the lack of care for your brother.

A Forever Recovery has many problems and if the are connected with Stone Hawk or not, I cannot say.

I will try to give you a fair and balanced view of what my brother and my family experienced in our 2 week dealings wit this company.
Please understand that I am not the person or "addict" that went to the facility...this person was my brother and we were in contact throughout his stay.
He entered the facility at the end of December 2009 after I and my brother read their website and had an extensive conversation with "Rob" who's title is intake specialist.
Trust me when I tell you folks, this man talked a good talk to both of us. I asked him about the bad press I read about the place on line...and I'm not talking about Stone Hawk, I'm talking about A Forever Recovery.  He assured me these were the rants of addicts that didn't want to face recovery and that all they cared about was getting the "addict" well.  He mentioned several times that he (Rob) could be at a better paying job than this but he did this because he cared so much...and if we could have my brother up there by 2:00 tomorrow he would see to it that all went well.  He is in this position I believe because he is a great salesperson and had little to nothing to do with my brothers recovery once he was checked in and the "contact was signed. This was unsettling to both of us as he made several promises about the quality of care my brother would receive considering he was there for smoking pot and failing a urine test at work..not heroine, not pain killers, not meth...were talking pot smoking. Now, please understand that we believe that can and was an addiction for my brother but this is not someone who could not go without it.  Another thing you need to know about my brother is he is 53 years old and also has Aspergers Syndrome which is a slight form of autism which we feel is the real basis of his problems.  I made it clear to Rob that he would need a little extra help because he had the Aspergers and he assured me that they would not have any issue dealing with this and that he would be very well cared for...that never happened.
He spoke one last time to my brother before he drove to A Forever Recovery and Rob told him to drink alcohol before he checked himself in.  We both thought this was a little strange considering he is not a drinker but were told that this would make it easier to get the insurance company to pay for the recovery....so he had a couple beers in their parking lot.  This was the start of the red flags.
My brother entered the rehab/detox section of the facility for 2 days and said the place was pretty gurney and that a doctor just shows up to so they can bill the insurance company.  After 2 days in there he was put into the main facility and started the "program".  Now this is a classroom setting with written book work that he struggled at for days before be finally had had enough and stormed out of the classroom, then instead of getting help he was written up for being a discipline problem..now remember this is someone with Aspergers who has major problems with learning and reading.  I then received 2 calls for a gal by the name of Holly who works at Forever Recovery and kept saying she would have to write my brother up if he didn't get with the program. I tried to explain that he has Aspergers and was that being addressed and after being rude and interrupting me several times, I realized she had no idea and neither did anyone else there. She herself was a drug addict that was out of recover for 1 year and they employ her which I guess is not uncommon for them to do this.  She told me she would write in his chart that he had Aspergers Syndrome as apparently no one seemed to know this so they thought his behavior was just him being a jerk.  This went on for days and then I finally get a call from Jeramy who I guess is the person who talks people out of leaving when they have had enough...again, he had no idea..and this is after 2 weeks of my brother being there that he had Aspergers Syndrome.  They just couldn't understand why he had trouble with his class work and was completely frustrated with the whole program. They really, really failed him and me and my mother who lives on $7,000.00 a year and took all her savings to pay for my brother to go here.
We did not expect a fancy, high end facility but we did expect that my brother would be well taken care of which he was not at all.  The other stories that I have read on line about the place are true according to my brother who has no reason to lie...they would have dumped my brother at a motel by himself if he didn't drive his own vehicle..he was not allowed calls longer than 10 minutes, the place was dirty and on the last day he was there his bedroom flooded and his personal items got all wet.  He said it was very much geared for adolescence..not someone his age and he would never recommend it to anyone.
Please, I know the program sounds good online and I know that Rob was a great talker on the phone, but save your money and your loved one and try another facility.
I have so much more I could tell you about the place but my letter is getting very long.  I'm sure like any facility they have some success stories, but if your loved one has any other issues besides drugs or alcohol..any other issues, this place is not the place for them..they are not trained or have the depth of communication skills to deal with them.
At this point, I wish we would have taken the $5,000.00 dollars and gotten him a good quality counselor that specialized in treating folks with Aspergers Syndrome...we would have been much better off and my brother wouldn't have left feeling like he was a complete failure at another thing in life he attempted to do.

I inadvertently posted two reports on A Forever Recovery as there was a delay and I thought my first did not go through.

Anyway, I do not think A Forever Recovery is still technically associated with Narconon.  After the divorce, Per Winstrom  ( Wickstorm Chevrolet) registers "A Forever Recovery" as a fictious name for the Narconon Stome Hill site.

Oct 2009 Wickstrom Chevrolet drops it as an assumed name.

However, the name is now in use, and  the program slightly changed from what I read of the original Stone Hawk reports . But , the cal -mag, sauna and most importantly the lies, control and manipulation are still there.  It is about MONEY, and deceitful buisness practice.

The current website is www.stopyouraddict.com

I feel so badly my friend was taken for her money out of love and concern for me.

This is the worse kind of money scam.

I am sure the Scientology influence is still there though I never attended "the program".   My few days in the detox hut were enough to tell me something was VERY wrong with this facility.

I will continue to 'get the word out', so others are not hurt or scammed.

Thank you for the additional links and warnings.

You've discovered an arm of the Church of Scientology.

No, I'm not kidding.

Narconon (as opposed to NarcAnon) is run, organized and pays money to, what is known as the "Religious Technology Center", or "RTC" for short. In return for outrageous franchise fees, RTC allows Narconon centers to utilize the "technology" (or "tech") of L. Ron Hubbard.

The tech aforementioned, is nothing more than quack pop psychology and uses dangerous pseudo-science to "cure" people of addiction. Part of the cure relies in ingesting dangerous amounts of "Cal-Mag" and spending dangerous amounts of time in a sauna. The results of this "treatment" can be severe damage of the liver.

The people who apply this "tech" are NOT trained medical professionals in any way, shape or form. The administrators are members of the Church of Scientology, and their only goal is to SELL, SELL, SELL services and, wherever possible, convert people to the "religion" of Scientology, route them into one of the many missions or "Churches" and put them to work under deplorable conditions for little or no pay (would YOU work for about $38 a week?)

I implore you to visit the sites http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Stop-Narconon/ or www.xenu.net and find out what Scientology and Narconon do NOT want you to know.

Please also be aware that since Narconon is run by the Church of Scientology, it is highly possible they will try to find out who you are, intimidate you and "shudder you into silence". Please know that this is a dictate handed down by L. Ron Hubbard himself. he stated "never defend, always attack" and directed his minions to hunt down and "destroy by any means necessary" people who stood against the expansion of Scientology. This would mean you and me.

I wish you the best, truly, and hope that you make use of the resources I've left here.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Help end the nightmare.
