APPLEGATE SECURITIES I Believe they are trying to do a scam MONTREAL Ontario

I recieved a letter in the mail today with a check in it for 4995.00. The letter states that I am one of 20 winners in a sweepstake held on 12/5/08 that was for $5 million dollars. That my share is $250,000.00 of it. They claim they have tried to contact me and was unsuccessful. My claim # WA/SDH-0101 and has been assigned to our North American Claims Affiliate. To expidite the processing enclosed is the checkof $4995.00 US dollars which has been deducted from my winning. The sole purpose of this check is for the payment of applicable Goverment Taxes on my big winnings.
The tax amount is $2995.00 US DOLLARS to be paid by either Moneygram or Western Union.
It says please do not attempt to use this check until you call. You are advisted to contact your claim agent immediately for further claification as indicated below within 5 business days. Bob Morris 1-416-824-2795 Mary Long(promotion Manager).

The way I look at it is if I won so much money then deduct the taxes from it and send me the balance of it. I should not have to send money in to get money. Susie Wolcott New York
