I purchased a Mitsubushi 52" HD DLP Big screen tv in 2005 for $2300.00.  I didn't get the extended warranty and the tv only had a one year warranty from Mitsubushi Electric.  It ran fine until the warranty ran out.

I first had a illumination bulb burn out after only 1000 hours of operation.  They are suppose to last 2000 hours.  Out of warranty I ordered a bulb from Mitsubushi.  It costs $262.00 for the bulb and $100.00 to have an authorized Mitsubushi repair service company to put it in. Had I known the tv had a bulb needing replacement I would not have bought the tv.

The bulb lasted 300 hours and I kept getting an error message on the screen to change the bulb, life of bulb has expired.  I ordered another bulb from Mitsubushi, spending another $362.00.

The next failure defect was a light engine failed.  This cost me $720.00 to repair. Plus 2 of the start capacitors on the chassis circuit board were bad.  An additional $65.00 to replace.  This repair lasted for 4 months and then another bulb burned out after 450 hours of operation. Another $362.00.  Then the tv started to shut off by itself and wouldn't turn on without unplugging it from the wall outlet.  The service company came out and upgraded the software program card and this corrected the problem but it cost $120.00 to do this fix.

The tv ran fine for 6 months and then the circuit board chassis failed.  The service company determined the chassis was bad and provided me with an estimate of $537.38 to repair.  They stated there was over 70 capacitors on the chassis board and they get to hot because they can't dissipate enough heat generated by the system and fail.  I decided to not repair the tv because I already spent enough money, lost wages waiting for service repair calls , went without a tv at all for 6 months downtime waiting for replacement parts and countless hours on the phone to Mitsubushi Customer relations to troubleshoot and document my failures.  $2166.38 for a tv that doesn't work.
I borrowed a 21" sharp tv 15 years old from my son and have no problems with it.  See Cnet.com
