modern gas trying to take our tank! still in use! stroudsburg, Pennsylvania

We moved into our home in 2001. The propane tank that was here is owned by Modern Gas in Stroudsburg. Or soi it says on the tank.It was half filled and connected to a small fireplace. Three years later we got the tank filled. We hardly use the fireplace. But it is used on colder days for alternative heat.

Last week, which is now the year 2012, Modern gas came to the house without warning and was going to take my tank! I still have gas in the tank since it was filled in 2005. They did not even call. They showed up, I watched them walk around my property looking for the tank. I went outside and approached them, They told me since I had no activity for 7 years, they were taking my tank and would refund me for the remaining fuel! obsurd! I was actually using it that day!

When I told them to leave, because I still use it, They told me I now had to purchase a Years worth of gas or they will call the police to come and get the tank! This is what they are calling a "inactivity fee" and , on top of that, they wanted me to buy the tank! I cant believe they did not have the courtesy to call first! they told me they were tired of buying new tanks, so they were driving around repossessing peoples tanks who havent bought from them in two or more years. This is a company who claims to be around for 50 years!

I finally called them and told them to come back in the spring when I have used all the gas. I also told them to bring the serial number for the tank, because i dont even know if it really is their tank.  Unbelievable. I feel sorry for anyone who has deal with this company. The customer service sucks. A phone call would have been nice. Not two guys walking around my property, without even a knock at the door. I can see if I had a contract, but I dont.
