i have bought windows for the second time and i have been ripped off again in 10 years. i have had this company out to my house several times to complain about the air coming through the windows. they say they fixed it but on a very windy day my curtains are moving so i had to put plastic up over my windows to keep the air from coming in. i have sent them an email saying i no longer want them and they tell me the problem is that the company forgot to put the weather stripping in the windows.till this day they still have not called back or come out to my house and they are charging me 9075.00 for 8 windows.this company was just in my area trying to sell more of their windows and telling people that no one complains about their windows and this person told them about me and he just ignored them . this company told me that these windows would cut my fuel bill in half and if it did not they would write me a check which they have not.my house is more colder with the new windows than with my old ones

Frustrations Continue in our Service Attempts

The company has made numerous visits in attempts to service this customer. On our visits, the complaining side of the customer (Sandy) has never once been present. Her husband has, on the other hand, been satisfied in our attempts.

These customers purchased super high energy efficient (R10) triple pane windows. The statement ..."the company forgot to put weather stripping in the windows..." is blatently false. Vista Window Company, the manufacturer, has a thorough inspection process before windows are shipped. Besides which, any window not having weather stripping would be immediately noticeable at installation.

At the suggestion of the factory, Modern returned and installed an extra heavy weather stripping in the windows that are actually meant for another type of window style. When complaints were continued after this, we returned and checked the surrounding insulation materials that were installed on the initial installation, and added more. On another subsequent service visit, the windows were re-caulked inside and out.

After this point, we got the factory involved. Their stance is that ALL replacement windows, no matter who the manufacturer, will have some minor amount of infiltration, being moving, functioning devises, and that the only 100% effective way of stopping all infiltration would be to install non-opening dead-lites instead.

Keep in mind that the complaint focuses primarily around windows on the "weather side" of the home, on which side is an expansive, flat, broad plain of land - a geographic positioning particularly prone to air infiltration around and through any number of points through around the home's walls. (Note Sandy's phrasing when describing the problem: "...on a very windy day...".)

The service department is scheduled to make one more (hopefully final) visit to apply some foam insulation into the operating lineals, around the limit locks and cam lock areas, that already have sash frame insulation in them from the manufacturer. During this visit I will personally attend the work performed, and I will need to insist that Sandy be present in order to review everything that has been done to this point. Past this last future visit, Modern will need to deferr any and all future service complaints directly to the Manufacturer, as we feel we have done everything humanly possible to satisfy this customer. Keep in mind that Modern has installed thousands of this exact same type and brand of window, with this type of complaint being the FIRST of it's kind.

Modern has been an established, reputable business for too many years to have been so foolish as to continuously rely on a defective product or manufacturer for so long a time. Our thousands of satisfied customers and our outstanding reputation for quality and service stand against this slanderous allegation of a "rip-off".
