MOGI is using a nationwide campaign pitch telling consumers, something to the effect, that if their auto warranty has expired or is about too; they can sign up for Mogi's "after warranty" insurance and have all their repairs paid for - 100% of them. Sounds good doesn't it? Getting your car fixed, especially for a major repair, can be really expensive. So it makes sense that for a little extra each month you can have peace of mind knowing that someone else is going to take care of these expensive repairs at a fraction of the cost to you. Just a small monthly payment. Right?
You go to their website and there you can choose from several different coverage plans. These plans range from just the basics to one that covers just about everything except the windshield wipers and air freshener. Naturally the more you want to have covered, the more the plans cost. But they keep touting that with their program, they pay 100% of the bill. You pay nothing - no deductibles, no co-pays, nothing.
But that's only true if you buy their most expensive plan. Look closely at exactly what they are including at each level of coverage. You'll soon find out that with the smaller/lesser plans, they are very specific as to what they will and won't cover. If you take those lists to any repair shop, you'll find that even though certain parts are covered, you will still have to pay for some of the repair work. This is because the repair shop can't work on the covered part of the list without working on the uncovered parts. So in the end - unless you buy into the biggest coverage plan; you're going to pay. Unfortunately, this is the small lie.
Here's the BIG LIE.
Sure, they'll pay 100% of the repair bill; BUT ONLY UP TO THE CASH VALUE OF YOUR VEHICLE. So... if you blow-up your engine and it costs $3500.00 to repair it, but your vehicle is only worth $500.00; guess what they pay??? That's right -- $500.00!!! Not the total $3500.00 you thought they were going to pay as it was presented and sold to you. You get stuck paying the other $3000.00.
My advise is to start putting $100.00 away each mo in a separate account only for vehicle repairs instead of sending it to these guys. That way, three years from now when you blow-up your engine; you'll have the money to get it fixed!

Mogi Facts Revisited

Mr./Mrs. Crunch
After reading
your post we would like to take this opportunity to reply to some of the issues
you have run into in regards to our service contracts. We would first like to address the concern of
Mogi paying for 100% of covered costs, not being true. As advertised Mogi will in fact pay for all
covered repairs less any deductible, please revisit our website linked here http://www.getmogi.com/tvcommercials.asp
and take another look at some of our current ads. You will see that roughly half way into the
spot a header appears that states We pay 100% of covered costs, less deductible (on the bottom of the screen it also states
that deductible may vary by policy.
Deductibles range from $0-$250). As
advertised Mogi will pay for 100% of covered parts (less deductible), we
apologize for any confusion you may have had on this topic.
In regards to the levels of coverages, yes there
are, of course, different levels. Much
like when you purchase vehicle insurance from All State, Prudential, Geico or a
number of other carriers there are different levels of coverage for different
situations. We work hard to customize policies
to our customers wants, needs and budgetary restraints. Furthermore, it also holds true that not all
vehicles will qualify for all levels of coverage; in this case we have
restrictions that we must abide by in order to stay insured by our A rated
carriers.
Now, to respond to any
confusion in relation to the remark: BUT ONLY UP TO THE CASH VALUE OF YOUR
VEHICLE. YES! This is absolutely
true. In insurance this would be called totaled. However, please be aware that we take the
time to evaluate your vehicles worth BEFORE any service contract is purchased
and if the qualified vehicle is less than what the coverage is offered at, we
make it known to the customer and suggest the policy not be purchased. In the past we have had customers that still
opt to get the protection on a vehicle that has a lower value simply because even
if the vehicle is only worth $1000 they would still rather make small monthly installments
and know they are at least covered to that point. However, to make it clear, we DO NOT recommend
you purchase a policy on a vehicle that is worth $500.
Finally, we appreciate the possibility of saving $100 per month to pay for a repair in 3 years, but from our experience, with labor rates at an average of roughly $115 an hour (not including parts, diagnostics or taxes) and of course the possibility that you could break down any time (not just 3 years from now) service contracts are to protect from unexpected repair bills and we will continue to do our best in helping each customer interested in making an educated decision to have the peace of mind they are looking for. We apologize for any confusion and continue to look forward to helping our nations drivers aid against unexpected repair costs. Best Regards, Mogi Customer Care

I was reading over the plan and I was thinking of purchasing one of the plans. You stated:
"If you take those lists to any repair shop, you'll find that even
though certain parts are covered, you will still have to pay for some
of the repair work. This is because the repair shop can't work on the
covered part of the list without working on the uncovered parts."
But in all their plans it clearly states: "seals and gaskets not covered will be covered if it is necessary to work on the non covered part to fix the covered part." I do not know what you would have to get worked on that you would need to replace a major non-covered part. and simply removing the part out of the way or taking off is not considered working on it. or if it is in connection with. I am not saying you are wrong but I found this in 5 minutes on their main site. Is this your opinion or did a mechanic actually tell you this?
And as for your car being worth 500.00 and the repairs costing 3000.00 etc etc , this would be common sense. I would assume it would be. The same holds true to an insurance company they will total your vehicle not fix it. And if you read in the product description it states this is insurance.
In short I think it is worth while to look into if you own a vehicle worth more than $500.00 lol I really hope you get your problems worked out. perhaps they should give you the option of getting a check for the value of the car instead of getting the repair done. If it is to costly due to the value of the car. like an insurance compny give you the option of totaling it out, or giving you a check for the said worth and leaving the option to fix it at your own mechanic.
