I worked for this company and was used just like everyone else with B.S. promises, hype, and they tried to brain wash me, but that technique did not work.
First I walked around the home depot's and solicited people to get a free consultation for cabinet refacing and tub inclosures. I was told to call my appointments in to our office instead of Home Depot's call center. I was told I would make alot more money off the in house appointment by getting commission from the sale instead of taking the flat fee if I used Home Depots call center. I was lead to believe that we had the best closers in the country working out of our office. I was a top lead generator for the company. I found that half my appointments were not being taken care of because they did not have enough closers to go on all appointments. So I asked why I was booking in house leads if you cannot make the appointments. Out of all the leads I set they only sold one lead. Their prices for the remodels were some of the highest prices around. Home Depot had better prices on their bids then we did. Basically we looked for suckers. After a few weeks of that a different division opened up for direct tv sales, and since I had experience in selling dish network for the phone company's before, I switched to that division.
The idiot that was supposably in charge of that division ( Clayton ) did not know the product, or the competitors offers and when I told him it was important to know these things, I was told by him that was not necassary. I could not believe my ears. We would have conference calls with other groups from other cities and the first thing they said was to get to know who the competitors are and their offers. I had sold AT&T, Comcast, Dish, and Frontier communications services for two years prior. I was the only one who truely knew what I was doing. Clayton wanted us to mislead the customers in our sales presentations, which I refused to do. ( Hi Clayton ) I went to the owner and told him of these tactics and he told me to do it my way , but he also did not correct Clayton on what to say and allowed him to train other people to lie to the customer. When I talked to customers who had cable and were paying for a voip phone as part of their bundled package and did not want to break their bundled rate, I would tell them about the Majic Jack for $20.00 per year instead of paying comcast a monthly fee. Im used that technice to convince them to cancel Comcast and get the jack and go with Direct tv as a solution to lower their bill. ( Clayton told me that the Majic Jack was illegal. ) I told him he was an IDIOT. They nicknamed me Majic Jack.
And I was the only one smart enough to use the majic jack as a sales tool.
I knew that being required to work 60 hours a week was not legal, they had us training new people for them for free as part of their way of bringing us up in the company with B. S. tactics of someday owning your own company.
In the meeting they would tell us that 99% of us would never make it to owner. Thay're way of doing a take away on you if you did not conform to their tactics.
Well if you are selling me on a concept of owning one of these groups then I am evaluating the structure of the company and looking at your whole format. They did not want you to think that far a head and just follow their lead and only look at what they wanted you to see.
I have owned businesses in the past and know how to look at a business model. I did not like what I saw.
I told the owner many times that the way they were paying people and the hours they required were illegal. I was told they have great attorney's who have researched their format and that it was ok to treat people this way.
I disagreed and I went to the Labor Board and asked them what was the truth. The Labor Board does not always give the right answer and it took three attemps to get the right info from them. Finally I did and I went back to the boss and he admitted that I caught him with his pants down, ( His words)
He did not want trouble with the Labor Board and he did settle up all the back pay he owed me. Now he was not forth coming to everyone that had worked for him and offer to pay them all back pay as it would have put him out of business. He took it case by case with the people who were smart enough to figure it out.
To me this is not a way to run a company. Turn over was high because people did not want to work 60 hour weeks for one ( which was not told to you at time of interview ) and you found out the hard way and you were told you had to train other people to be good at sales to advance in the company, but most of the people they hired could not do sales if their life depended on it and you were wasting your time training them.
A lot of people came and went, but were never compensated for their time.
I went after another guy named Chris who was running the company for the first two weeks before he moved his office to San Diago. I tracked him down and he refused to pay me what he owed me and told me he was no longer with the company and that I would never get my back pay from him. I called the home depot in San Diago and started complaining about this company and they gave me the number to the office in San Diago, I called and talked to the head guy there and was told Chris does work out of that office and he offered to pay my back wages that Chris owed me, if I would stop calling Home Depot.
Check with your local state Labor Board and I am sure you can get your back wages.
I was told when hired I was an Independent Contractor, but the State makes that decision of weather or not you really are independant.
The company here changed their ways and the way they pay and the hours to conform to Calif state law.
They tell you you will advance to owner within 3 to 6 months, but the owner told me he had been doing this for two years before he made partner and Clayton has been there 2 years and still has not made partner.
If you have read the responses from the people who run some of the groups then it should be self evident how unprofessional they really are.
