I have to agree with Knightly. While your concern for poor children is laudable, your expectation that educational companies should just give their products and services to inner city kids is misguided. Companies have to make a profit. That’s why people start companies, even educational companies.  People don’t go into business because they want to help others, or because they want to make the world a better place.  They go into business because they want to make money, for themselves and their families. It’s true that by doing so they often help people or make the world a better place, but that isn’t their main goal.  It’s a means to an end. If we lived under a system where people couldn’t make a lot of money by starting a business we would be miserable, because most positive change is brought about by people trying to make money, not by liberal do-gooders who think people should spend their lives providing goods and services for others not for money, but because it’s the right thing to do.  That may sound good and wonderful as a theory, but in practice it’s horrible.  If you want to see what life is like in an economy that’s not based on the profit motive, just move to Cuba.  There’s no problem of unfairness in Cuba. Everyone is equal there.  Equally mired in grinding poverty because free enterprise is outlawed. Is that the kind of country you want to live in?

   Children of weathy families have always and will always have an educational advantage over the economically disadvantaged.  It's a pretty well known fact of life.   I'm not sure how your sudden discovery of the obvious relates to a company that publishes test prep books.   If this company were to disappear tomorrow, would you expect students from shcools in South Central L.A. to start flooding into Harvard and Yale?  What is your point?

  In the grand scheme of things, $40 - $50 to further one's educational pursuits is not a lot of money.   When I was a poor student, I understood that I would have to work to pay for such things.  Even at minimum wage, that's less than a workday's pay. 

  If your goal is that the children of the privileged never have an educational advantage over those from poor families, you'll have to move to another planet.   Even in so-called communist countries, the children of the ruling classes have advantages over those of peasant famers.  It's an inescapable fact of life.
