This has been our third stay at Monterey Bay Suites.  Our first stay was in 2007 when we got
married and we have returned to Myrtle Beach every September since. We have tried other hotels, but my husband always asks to come back to Monterey Bay. We made reservations for 8 days, but I have heart problems and the morning of the 5th day I discovered that I did not have enough heart medication.  After explaining our dilemma to Stacey at the front desk, she told us that if we had to leave early, she would allow us to apply the remainder of our balance to a future stay.  We tried to make arrangements to get some medication in Myrtle Beach, but it was just not possible.  We checked out that evening and explained to Lee what had happened.  He assisted us in making a reservation for December and gave us a receipt showing that the balance of our account had been applied as a deposit to our new reservation.

When I returned home I had some lab tests done and found out I had some even more serious health issues and am facing at least one surgery, if not more.  Given the fact that we dont have a complete diagnosis yet and are not even sure if the surgery will be successful, my husband and I felt that it would probably be best to cancel any future vacations.

I called Monterey Bay Suites to do so and Jennifer answered and was very happy to assist me and only asked me for a brief explanation why?  I told her I would be having surgery and she said ok.  She advised me that there would be a $25 cancellation fee, and I told her I was aware, it was
stated clearly on our reservation.  She told me the money would be back in our account within 7 days.  15 minutes later she called back and told me that she would be unable to refund our money as I had never paid a deposit.  I told her that my receipt clearly showed a deposit.  Lee had even
circled it when he gave it to us.  She put me on hold, then transferred me to Stacey.  Stacey again told me that they would not refund our money and I reiterated that our receipt clearly stated in black and white that we had paid a deposit and the receipt also stated the cancellation policy and we were well within those limits.  She still refused.  I told her that I would call the BBB and my bank and she said that she did not care.  I guess thats the main statement.  Did not care.  This was the hotel we stayed in when we got married for goodness sake, health permitting, we probably would have returned for years and years.  NEVER AGAIN.  Poorly played Monterey Bay.
