On 4/7/07 my wife and I checked into the Baymont Inns and Suites in Santee, SC. I asked for two keys and they told me I would have to give a $5.00 per key deposit which would be returned in full upon my returning the keys.
When we checked out the next day, my wife returned the two keys and signed for the bill. When she looked at the bill, there was still a $10.00 key charge on the bill. She pointed this out to the clerk who said, There is nothing I can do about it now. It will be taken care of later.
When we got home, I called Mastercard and was told the charge posted by the hotel was $67.94, which indicated that the $10.00 charge had been removed. Then we left to go see my dying brother. However, when I returned home after laying my brother to rest and checked the bill, I saw that the charge was $77.94.
Figuring that it was an oversight, I called the hotel and was told by the General Manager that my wife signed the receipt and "there was nothing they could do." It was my wife's word against the clerk's.
It is interesting that there was nothing the clerk could do when the error was first made and noted by my wife. I wonder how often this hotel scams people out of money with these same words - there is nothing I can do now.

It is also interesting to note that the Corporate Baymont organization said they have no control over the individual hotels and there was nothing they could do. They can do nothing seems to be the motto of the whole chain.
I will never stay at a Baymont again anywhere.
