Hello my name is Rodney Odom me and wife purchased a horse from Val Moody at Mountain Dew Farms. We had the horse for about a month. We were told the horse was bomb proof and we paid $1500.00 for him. My wife and middle daughter was riding him and all of the sudden out of the blue he started bucking and thru my wife and daughter.

We took my wife and daughter to the emergency room my 11 year old daughter was fine. But my wife had dislocated her elbow it was about 2 1/2 inches out of joint. They put my wife elbow back into joint. and I took her and my daughter home. The next day we was walking down the driveway where this happened and saw something in the weeds it was the breakaway stirup from my saddle. Just imaging if it would not have broken away, my wife could have been hurt alot worse. It ended up costing us $3,500.00 out of pocket expenses for her arm. I called Val and we traded the horse for another horse a golden Palimino named Foxxy and gave her an additional $500.00 for this horse. We got her home and the next day started riding her. THis is another horse we was told was bomb proof . But all she wanted to do was Rare up in the air.

I had friends ride her that have been riding horses for all there life and she did the same to them. I called Val about this and told her I wanted my money back and SHe told me the sale was final and we needed to get riding lessons. I kept the horse for a short time and finally sold her to a gentleman that uses her just for a brood Mare and lost another $ 1,000.00 on her because nobody could not get her to stop the Raring. I will never buy or sale her a horse ever again.
I have learned 2 things from this
(1) There is no such thing as a bomb proof horse
(2) Have break- away stirups

Thank God that we was using them at the time of my wife accident and that they have been put out of business
Good Job

solution to purchases

I have not done business with this particular stable in question, but do have a word of advice when looking for a horse to purchase. When buying a horse first try them out at the place then if all goes good only purchase with a 30 day trial bases. In other words you have horse for 30 days at your place. You will be responsible for any injuries during your care BUt you also will know that this horse will fit what you need. I sure hope your wife is okay and that they were not riding double at the time. Not alot of horses like being ridden double. Good Luck and be patient on buying.
