My daughter got a quote from several moving companies, Statewide Van Lines was one of the best and seemed the most up front and honest. WRONG. She told them 3 bedroom, 2 bath, town home, one bedroom empty, just her and my grandson. Gave them a list of every piece of furniture, how much clothing and stuff she had, remember these people do this EVERY DAY and this is what they sent her...

THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO FILL OUT THE INVENTORY LIST AND SEND IT TO ME ON-LINE. I UP-DATED YOUR INVENTORY LIST TO INCLUDE MORE BOXES, SO THIS ESTIMATE IS MUCH MORE ACCURATE. MY MOVING PROGRAM ESTIMATED YOU HAVE AROUND 4,173 LBS. THE NEW LOWERED RATE I CHARGE TO GO TO LAS VEGAS, NV IS $0.50 CENTS PER POUND. THE FINAL WEIGHT CALCULATION WILL BE DONE ON THE DAY OF THE MOVE  IN ACCORDANCE WITH PROPER DOT REGULATIONS. THE ESTIMATE I AM PROVIDING HERE IS: 4,173 POUNDS X $0.50 =$2,086.50

As soon as he had most of it loaded the mover told her she had closer to 7400 POUNDS, or $3700!! That is almost twice as much! (He also asked her if she was paying with cash or credit).  So, these people have no idea what they are doing if they can't estimate anywhere near the poundage!

It gets worse, the driver called her Saturday and told her he would be there Sunday or Monday whichever she preferred. She told them Monday. Monday comes and she gets a call from the same man (broken english), would she prefer Wednesday or Thursday, she asked what happened to today? He acted like he had no idea what she was talking about and even said someone else must have called her (not from the company) and WHAT WAS HER ADDRESS?? She told him she would need a copy of the weight certificate and he said SHE WOULD HAVE TO GET IT FROM THE MAIN OFFICE (after she paid him CASH of course) She called the main office and they told her no, the driver would have it and yes it was more because she had more furniture than listed. She checked off every piece of furniture as they loaded it! Also he said they had twice the boxes than normal, NORMAL FOR WHOM? A single mother and 6 yr old who gave away most of their clothes and his toys to lighten the move? Every time my daughter tried to say something he rudely interrupted and YELLED at her, very different from the polite man who called to get her business.

Now my daughter is forced to give them the rest of her money and she will be left with $200 for her and her child until she starts working. I am certain if he shows up tomorrow he will not give her her household until she pays him in CASH the crazy amount they are now demanding. I also can't help but wonder if the driver will produce the weight certificate, even though the DOT requires they have it on them. A moving company who does this every day should be able to estimate MUCH MUCH better than this. Its almost TWICE the estimate!! This is outrageous!!

Oh, and the driver insisted on the phone - ONLY CASH! ONLY CASH!! but this is from the estimate also; WE ACCEPT ALL MAJOR CREDIT CARDS. YOU ONLY PAY 50% AT THE PICK UP LOCATION AND THEN THE BALANCE OF 50% AT THE DESTINATION.

Statewide is a company is full of scam artists

AUTHOR: Scamed by Statewide Van Lines - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, August 13, 2011

I have experience the same situation with Statewide but the difference is I'm not letting their business practice to continue hurting other people. I have connnections with people in the BBB & IRS so hopefully this will be costly to them in the future.

I'm not going into details about my situation with Statewide due to the fact that JIM will spin the story and blame it on the customer as he always does in other websites. Do your research and pay for a company that is not full of scam artists. Good Luck Statewide and enjoy your problems with the BBB & IRS.

UNPREPARED CUSTOMER

AUTHOR: JIM - (United States of America)

HI,

First of all the person who wrote this report was not the person we moved.  It was the mother of the person, and we had absolutely no contact with her whatsoever.  She has no idea what transpired.  The customer failed to provide an accurate inventory list,  and We tried to update it, but the customer left out many items from the original list she prepared.  AND WHEN WE SHOWED UP ,  SHE HAD EVEN MORE BOXES THAN WHEN ORIGINALLY THOUGHT;  I HAD ALREADY INCREASED THE NUMBER OF BOXES FOR THE MOVE. SHE LEFT OUT KEY PIECES OF FURNITURE THAT WERE NOT EVEN ON THE INVENTORY LIST.  She was very ill prepared for this move.  WE WEIGH ALL THE CONTENTS AT THE CERTIFIED WEIGHT SCALES AND EVERY CUSTOMER GETS A COPY OF THE CERTIFICATES at the time of the delivery . WE GAVE HER THE COPY OF THE CERTIFICATES.   THERE IS EVEN A CLAUSE IN OUR CONTRACT THAT GIVES THE CUSTOMER A RIGHT TO HAVE THE GOODS RE-WEIGHED AT THE TIME OF THE DELIVERY.  WE EVEN TOLD HER TO COME TO THE WEIGH IN AT THE CERTIFIED WEIGHT SCALES AT THE DELIVERY , AND SHE REFUSED TO GO SAYING SHE WAS "TOO BUSY"  WITH OTHER THINGS.

IT IS CLEARLY STATED IN OUR CONTRACTS THAT WE ACCEPT "CLEARED" FUNDS AT THE TIME OF THE DELIVERY. MEANING CASH, MONEY ORDER OR CERTIFIED CHECK. WE DO THIS BECAUSE WE HAD MANY CUSTOMERS WHO ORIGINALLY TOOK ADVANTAGE AND GAVE US BAD CHECKS, SO WE REQUIRE CLEARED FUNDS AT THE TIME OF THE DELIVERY.  THE MOTHER WHO WROTE THIS REVIEW WAS NOT AT THE PICK UP AND MOST PROBABLY NEVER EVEN SAW THE ORIGINAL CONTRACT. IN ALL FAIRNESS,  SHE SHOULD NOT EVEN BE WRITING THIS REVIEW. And then she says that someone called speaking with "BROKEN ENGLISH". Our workers are some of the hardest workers in the business, and come from Europe.  Why does she make fun of the way they talk ?  WHY HAS NOT THE DAUGHTER WRITTEN THE REVIEW ?  BECAUSE LIKE IN THE MOVE,  SHE IS TOTALLY UNPREPARED AND UNRESPONSIBLE.

This is another classic story of the customer blaming the moving company for not being properly prepared.

It keeps getting deeper

So, someone called her from the Company and they keep trying to make it her fault the estimate is so far off. I am sorry but THEY DO THIS EVERYDAY. They have estimating software, they would not be in business if they did this to everyone. Also, her bill total is now $4010 up from the original estimate of $2,086.50. Thats nuts, they estimated it at 1/2 of what it is? How do they get away with this? How do we know that anything is true, if they produce a weight certificate how do we know it even belongs to her stuff (only)? Almost every other company she gave the list to estimated it around 4,000lbs or $2500, so were they all that far off, or is this company scamming her?

Yesterday the original salesman called and left her a message on her phone saying part of the reason it was more was because she had a garage full of stuff and didn't tell them, she had no garage. Also on the website it says the moving men are all in their uniforms and she was told explicitly that everyone that worked for them was an employee they did not contract out. Yet yesterday the guy who called to say he would be delivering it said he is LOCAL (Las Vegas, NOT Virginia Beach) and he DID NOT work for the company.

Pretty much everything this company and thier representatives have told to get her business is not true.

I believe holding someone's property until they pay you an exhorbitant amount of money is call extortion or blackmail.
