Set up move with The Moving Experts, Inc. of Chicago, who works in conjunction with US-1 Van Lines (based out of Florida and Georgia). Explained my 88 year old Father's health problems & disability (dementia and inability to walk) to Derrick and explained I could not be there before the 10th. We arranged the move for June 10th and I made my flight arrangements to get there late night on the 9th so I could be there at the apartment on the morning of the 10th. I was told delivery would take 5-10 business days but Derek said it would probably done in 5.

Received a call on June the 5th that the movers would be there on the 7th! I told them NO and explained Dad's dementia and physical disability. They called back and said they couldn't do the 10th and would be there on the 9th! I quickly contacted a hotel in the area and made arrangements for my dad to get there on Friday the 9th. The hotel stay cost us $80.00

I had a friend in Savannah help my dad on the 9th pack his stuff, take him to the bank, took his laundry to do at her house, and take him to the hotel. I paid her $50 for this to make up for the time she had to take off work to help. She had to also do his laundry because he was supposed to do all this stuff on Friday and be packed for Saturday but since they moved him a day early I had to pay her to do all this stuff for him.

I arrived late night on the 9th, rented a car and drove to the hotel. The rush of the move threw him off schedule and he was disoriented. I made sure he ate and took his medicine and then checked on his apartment.

I called the movers the next day to arrange to mail payment (since they had come a day early they weren't able to collect payment). I spoke with El & Daniel and they said to call Long Distance dispatch (Florida) on Monday to arrange delivery date. I called Monday & Tuesday and left over 7 messages.

I finally called the sales office and spoke to Ira and Eva and asked for help. Eva called back and said they would be there Saturday afternoon (the 17th) and would call me the day before with a time. I received a call from the delivery team and they said they'd be there and would call me back with a time by Friday. I called dispatch of long distance on Thursday afternoon and on Friday, but of course got no response.

My husband took the day off from work to help my dad and lost out on $219.20 ($27.40 an hour x 8 hours). Not to mention it was Father's Day weekend. I called the Florida office, the Illisnois sales office and the 1800#.

On Saturday the 17th, I called dispatch 3 times for a time and got no answer. I again left messages and then called Eva. She said they are supposed to give me 12 hours notice (which meant they weren't coming since they hadn't called ahead). I told her at this point that my house wasn't set up to care for my disabled father and we were paying rent on an apartment he wasn't using! She said the dispatch manager had the day off but she'd call him at home. She said she'd call me back by 2:00 p.m.

I heard nothing (and called 3 different offices) from anyone, so I told them that they now owed me money and I was thinking of contacting an attorney.

$ 80.00 for hotel
$ 50.00 for Dad's care on the 9th
$219.20 for husband's missed work
$150.00 for plane ticket change
$ 20.00 for cell phone and home phone bill trying to track these people down
$100.00 for rent on apartment we couldn't move into
$479.20 as of Sunday, June 18, 2006

I asked The Moving Experts to help me get 1/2 of the packing/unpacking charge back since when US1 finally delivered my dad's stuff they didn't unpack it.

Ira of TME said that b/c I reported them to the BBB they will not discuss anything with me and my contract did not state "unpacking" (I'm looking at the contract right now and it most certainly does).

And as an update: Due to the stress of the whole ordeal and my dad trying to finish unpacking what I couldn't, he suffered a stroke yesterday and is in the hospital.
