First they showed on Monday Sept 27th when they told my wife they would be there Sunday the 26th. Then they were 2 and a half hours late that next day. We were charged a "long carry fee" stating they had to moved our stuff more than 150feet when they parked in my parking spot right in front of our townhouse. They also charged a fee for haveing to allegedly pack 5 picture framed pictures in which we have taken pictures of showing we packed them. We used home depot boxes and they didn't which made it easy to identify. The long carry charge was 142.15 and the pictures were around 136. My wife at one point called while our stuff was in transit to dispute these 2 charges. United Van Lines, the Broker, assumed that we were lying and the subcontractors were not. They did get MCI (subcontractor) to lower the cost of the long carry by half. I called back explaining that I didnt want to pay it at all since they were about 10 feet from my front door. The guys who showed were also very hard to understand since English was not their first language. They were also totally unproffessional looking and kinda scary. Then, they called day after day saying they would be here (Portland) within the next couple of days. Paid time off was used when it didn't need to be, cell phone minutes were used up etc. When they showed, they would not unload our stuff without payment first which the storage shed owners said was standard practice. They said after they unloaded, we could then dispute with their company about anything that was missing. United Van Lines told me first to verify that the pictures were or were not packed by us and then pay them with a separate money order or cash which quickly changed after Louise from Moving Connections spoke to him. They said that it was because I used postal money orders instead of cash which I argued for a while as well and then my wife argued for a while since I know, that is ridiculous. Finally we wanted our stuff and we had to start thinking about getting my 4 year old from day care. I signed the money orders. Louise from MCI (Moving Connections Inc.) pointed out to us in the contract that "cp" was marked on the contract that we signed showing they packed the pictures which was funny because when he pointed it out, my wife called his bluff and looked and noticed that "cp" was not actually marked. He also was very hard to communicate with as English was not his first language. He became upset as well and no longer wanted to speak to my wife and said he would only talk to me. He said that he would work a special deal for me about getting his truck closer to our storage shed since the truck they were in now was a semi with a 53 ft trailer. He then got to the back of the property of the storage shed place and said he couldn't get to the unit since it might damge his tires. The storage shed unit people assured him that other CDL semi drivers pull back there all the time but he refused saying it would damage his tires. He then asked me to sign the paperwork again saying I agreed to have him drop our stuff off on the corner and that we would move it from there to our unit. I started to argue again and Louse started throwing the contracts back at me saying he was giving my money orders back and that we would have to pay for his time in order to stay the night in Portland as well as a charter van to move our stuff from one side of the unit to the other. Luckily, I think, the storage shed employee said they could unload into one of the units next to the van and then we could move it from there about a block away to our reserved unit. The storage shed people were more than helpful. Our stuff got unloaded, he (Louise from MCI) told me to take up any disputes with the company as this was normal practice which I know is obviously shady. We are missing a tuperwhare container of My wife's clothes and wedding stuff and my s****.>
