My friend and co-worker moved from AL to CA and received a "Binding Estimate" from Robert Martinez at Nationwide Relocation.  Our employer accepted the bid of $4798.15 and paid the required deposit of $1785.92 expecting to pay 3012.23 at the time of delivery.  The day before our items were to be delivered, we were told the balance was $4707.42.  When we inquired that must not be crediting us for the deposit so the balance would be $2921.50, we were told "No, we don't get the deposit - you still owe $4707.42."  In the course of diputing this amount, we were told that wasn't the right amount anyway and we really owed $5592.67 due to the additional items and weight.  We disagreed with that indicating we had gone over the detailed list THREE times with their company representatives insuring our estimate was accurate.  We were provided a list of items that were not in our original bid of 124 items at a weight of 8172 pounds.  The items, we agree were oversights from our original bid, are a sports bag, a suit case, 2 3-tiered plastic shelves, 2 golf bags (one empty), 2 small stands, 2 brooms and 29 boxes (many because they required we repack items we had already packed) for a total of an additional 3968 pounds!  Those are some heavy brooms!!  We requested a reweight, got instructions on how to do that, did it and dropped the weight by a mere 420 pounds but did not receive any credit from the shipper because they would not accept our reweight.  There are additional issues on this but the main issue is the GROSS understatement of the weight estimate from the beginning.  When I questioned that issue and ask why the 50% difference, I was told the estimators - who never came to the apartments to do an estimate - only used average weight of items and they don't know how heavy our particular items are.  Let me assure you that our furniture items are "average" - no sleeper sofa, one desk of plyboard, one wicker cabinet, etc.  They estimated two vacuums at 70 pounds.  One vacuum is and Oreck and weighs approx. 10 pounds max.  The estimator indicated he would "Pad the Estimate" so we would be fine even if there were a few additional items.  This is a big SCAM and we would GREATLY appreciate any help anyone could give in assisting us to get a resolution to this.  They held our items hostage until we paid the entire amount and we have been trying to get a refund ever since.
