Mr. Lube had accidentally not completely replaced the oil cap onto the Honda civic that they were entrusted with.  After bringing it back, they had confirmed this and came out immediately to clean the oil stain left on the driveway.  If it were not for the physical damage left by the oil stain, my Mr. Lube experience would be a pure comedy!  Instead, it is a costly and unpleasant experience!

The manager at the Mr. Lube, Andre, sent out some men to clean the stains, they left before the driveway was dry, and did not wait to see the results.  At the second cleaning, I informed Andre that the stain was much worse.  Though it took him a few days, since he was very busy, the same guys came to clean it again.  I noticed that the asphalt was now removable by hand!  Meaning, you could remove parts of the driveway by hand where the spill was!

Andre had a solution, he would send out a "professional company" to fix the problem.  I was happy enough, but was skeptical since I already had a contractor tell me that the entire driveway is garbage because the greater than 1 foot oil stain had seeped through and would need replacement!  I asked Andre which company he would be using.  He became very defensive and flat out refused to tell me.  He said "head office" decides such things.  I asked him for the number to head office, he said he'd have to find out if he was allowed to give out the number.  I thanked him and said I'm sure I can find it online, he then hung up on me.

Head office then connected me to Bal.  Bal wasted day after day of my time telling me that the asphalt company would come to look at it, and, never picked up his phone when they didn't come.  This "accident" happened at least 3 times.

Finally Mr. Lube's contractor, "Anita's Asphalt" called.  The rep, Gene, told me there is nothing he could do for me because the asphalt stain was now removable by hand.  He said I needed hot asphalt, and his company did not do that.  He also confirmed what another contractor had said, that decontamination is necessary since the oil may have leaked through the asphalt and into the ground. Now Bal brought in the actual franchise owner, "Akbar" who came to see the property, many weeks after the problem happened.  Akbar did not care what his asphalt people said, though I suggested he himself call Gene.  Neither did Mr. Lube's head office rep, Ms. Soren, who was polite, but of no help.
Akbar's action was simple, he suggested that he hire a professional company to "seal the driveway", i.e. patch it and paint it with tar.  I agreed under the condition that he have a "professional" asphalt company do it.  Clearly, if professionals would clean this oil spill just by covering it, then I, Gene from Mr. Lube's asphalt company and the other contractors I had spoken to were mistaken!

Well, SURPRISE! SURPRISE!  Akbar had not gotten a "professional" company to decontaminate the oil leak!  Tony, a handyman from the area, the brother-in-law of a worker at Mr. Lube came and patched and tarred the driveway.

Conclusion:     Environmentaly irresponsible franchise owner, indifferent head office, and damage still visible!  The visibly noticeable area with the oil stain is already deteriorating, and that damage Mr. Lube is responsible for, yet won't own up to- that only affects one customer.  The environmental damage of having an oil leak over a few days and over 1 foot in width, and refusing to properly clean it,  is the kind of environmental irresponsibility that affects us all!

Good to get a second opinion sometimes

Kudos to Josie for the Eastwood image. Charles ought to get himself an image icon. Then he could be like a brand or something.

As for the OP, I'll say I figure he's gilding the lily somewhat, what with the environmental disaster in his driveway, etc.
HOWEVER, it would appear that this stupid lube place did cause him some grief, and could have potentially caused catastrophic engine damage, by their inexcusable carelessness.

If this guy now feels compelled to exaggerate damages in an effort to at least be made whole for whatever actual damages he incurred, I don't see it as either a big deal, nor a counterweight to invalidate his complaint.

When 2 parties engage in a dispute like this, you basically claim, or ask, for the moon and happily settle for the asteroid you're really owed.

Ken knows so much, the internet tough guy. Does Steve Stacey and Robert all get together with Ken to bully everyone?"
My turn to be critical, your statement SHOULD read:
Do Steve, Stacey and Robert all get together.....
Glad to help the new kid out...no thanks necessary.

Did you notify the EPA and demand a hazmat team for a removal, carry off and burial of the affected area?   An environmentally responsible person, such as yourself, would have immediately done so.

Get real, that little oil leak is so infinitesimal as to make no difference whatsoever.
Just a little exxageration on your part?

Another Major Oil Spill?

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

"The environmental damage of having an oil leak over a few days and over ONE FOOT in width and refusing to clean it, is the kind of environmental irresponsibility that effects us all"!!!! ONE FOOT??? This sounds like it could run a close second to that environmental disaster in the Gulf of Mexico a couple of years back. That was over 50 millon barrels of oil and what do we have here? A quart or two? "I already had one contractor tell me the ENTIRE driveway is garbage because the greater then 1 foot had seeped through and would need to be replaced. Do us a favor and takes some pictures of the WHOLE driveway and not those little 6"x 6" ones you submitted. One final comment. Do us all a favor and google "ASPHALT". No really, look it up and find out what it IS made of. I did and found that "asphalt is the carefully refinded reside from the distillation process of certain CRUDE OIL", among other things. In other words, IT'S MADE FROM OIL. Good try on getting a new driveway though.
