AVOID MR. TIRE (AKA CRAVEN'S AUTO REPAIR) IN STERLING VIRIGNIA!!!

Ok, so I work directly across the street from Mr. Tire (used to be Craven's tire and auto) in Sterling. I took my 2004 Acura TL into them for an oil change and a tire rotation. When I dropped it off, I also asked them to check the brakes, and tires, and let me know how long before I should expect to replace them.

They did the work, and I went back in to pick up the car, and when I did, Rocky the manager on duty told me that the brakes look good, and the tires also were ok. He told me I should expect to get another 10,000 miles before having to replace them. Well I was pretty happy, I paid for the oil change and left.

Immediately after I picked up the car, I knew something was wrong. The car would shimmy at speeds over 50 mph, which it had never done. Also immediately I noticed that the brakes were starting to sqeek a little when I pressed the them. They had never done this before either.

Well less then 1,000 miles later, the noise became VERY loud, and I took it back to Mr. Tire in Sterling to find out why they were making noise. They told me that I needed to buy new rotors, and new brakes, in both the front and the back. I was pretty angry at this point, because less then a month, and 1,000 miles earlier, they told me I'd be good to go for another 10,000 miles, even after I specifically asked them to check the brakes. What happened that in such short of a time, I all of a sudden needed new brakes, and why didn't they at least warn me when I took it in, that I could expect this to happen? Well I asked the for an estimate, and they gave me an estimate for $1,100 for both front and rear! I was shocked! I asked them what if I just wanted to to replace the brake pads in the back, to stop the noise, and I'd deal with the front at a later time. The general manager Nathan Russell told me that there's no way you can fix it without replacing the rotors also. Well I was pretty suspicious at this point, and told them I couldn't afford it, and I'd have to think about it.

My girlfriend, and her parents have always taken their cars to a shop in Manassas called Fix Your Toy, and have always said great things about them. I decided that I would give them a call, and I asked for an estimate for replacing the rear rotors, and brake pads. They told me over the phone that it would be $280 for the rear, and $560 if I wanted the front ones done also. I was shocked that there was such a difference in their price, and even though Manassas was well out of the way, I took them the car the same day, and left it over night for them to do the work. I told them that if they thought the front needed to be done, to go ahead and also do those.

I received a call from Fix Your Toy the next morning, letting me know that the car was ready. They told me on the phone that my total was $139.83!! I said no, I think you have the wrong person, I was told the total would be $280 at the minimum, or $560 for front and back. They told me that after they had looked at the car, that I did NOT need rotors, and that only the rear pads needed to be replaced, and that the front ones still had another 5,000-7,000 miles before they needed to be replaced. Never in my life have I taken a car to a mechanic, and actually paid LESS then the quoted estimate. I was so angry that Mr. Tire tried to screw me so bad! This type of practice should be illegal! MR. TIRE IN STERLING IS THE BIGGEST RIP-OFF IN VIRGINIA, AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS!

I will tell everybody I know to stay away from Mr. Tire in Sterling, they tried to overcharge me for things I did not even need done, MR TIRE IN STERLING ARE SCUM BAGS! BEWARE OF TAKING YOUR CAR INTO MR. TIRE, UNLESS YOU WANT TO HAVE REPAIRS DONE THAT DON'T EVEN NEED TO.

FIX YOUR TOY IN MANASSAS HAS WON A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE! I WILL NOT HESITATE TO TELL AS MANY PEOPLE AS I KNOW TO GO TO FIX YOUR TOY IN MANASSAS.

I have both the estimate from Mr. Tire, and the receipt from Fix Your Toy, if anyone would like to see them, please post a reply to this report, and I'd be happy to furnish anyone who wants copies.

P.S.
I actually went back into Mr. Tire, to confront them on what happened. They actually laughed in my face, and told me "So what?" So what!? They obviously make their living by ripping people off. Anybody else who has had a similar experience, please shart it here.
