The information provided in this report below is based on comments made by Maureen Tara Nelson during an onsite inspection held by a third-party verification company with no biases towards MTN Matchmaking.

MTN Matchmaking is a matchmaking service that is dedicated to helping people find a healthy and lasting relationship. Maureen Tara Nelson stated the following about her company, "We have a very thorough screening process we are not for everyone. And I can’t accept everyone because if I did I would be like the other companies that have been out there that have all gone out of business for doing the wrong thing. My model is to do a criminal felony background check in every state on all of my clients. Then as the owner, they come to me and meet with me personally and I give them a free consultation because I need to make sure that I think I can help them. The screening process when I meet with them I make sure that everyone is a nice decent, quality, positive person, emotionally stable. I am an executive level certified matchmaker and there are only a few of us in the country."

Leads for MTN Matchmaking are primarily obtained through television appearances on NBC, CBS, HBO, and A&E. Additionally, they advertise through print, commercials, and social media. Ms. Nelson proceeded to explain the sales and services process for her clients, "What a client can expect is a free consultation where I go through the screening process with them. Then they come in and I have to get to know their personality to the point that I am matching them with 3 parts of compatibility. This is my own private method I do it by hand I don't do it by a computer algorithm. On the interview, they will know about the screening process and how I do the matching by 3 parts of compatibility. They also have homework to do before they come in they have to think about what their 5 best qualities are. Then they have to think of what the 5 must haves are for the man or woman. They are also asked to wear something nice because if they like the program I will take their photo. So, I meet with them for an hour but the longest interview I have had was 4 hours because sometimes. I do a tiny personality test at my home office. Everyone leaves here with a packet that goes over all the information of what we go over here. They get a welcome letter, they get a letter on what to expect as a client and the most important thing is a list of do’s and don't s in dating. Then once they tell me Yes I love the program then we go over the different program. I have 5 programs for them to choose from ranging in price from $995 up to a celebrity program as well. If a person is celebrity lives here on Long Island my prices are $6500 which may seem like a lot to a person who is an accountant let's say but they won't pay that unless they are a celebrity. And then I go into how it works. If a person is compatible in 3 ways as well as having the 5 must-haves they will get an email on Tuesday evenings with the person's photo and a little bio about them and their only job is to say yes or no."



CUSTOMER CARE & COMPLAINT RESOLUTION – MTN MATCHMAKING

MTN Matchmaking was asked to describe a situation where a client was not satisfied with the level of service they received. Ms. Nelson explained that there are no guarantees in the matchmaking world. She additionally stated, "I will always do my best I will match you appropriately and make sure they have your 5 must haves but there are things I do not have control over. I do not have control over if a woman or man say yes to each other. I don't have control over if you go out on a date with a man and you are very nasty to the wait staff. Those are on you and those are the ones that complain. I bring them back to the point of what it was like to date without Maureen? So with people, there are times that they come in and they are unhappy. If they tell me about it soon I can fix it but there are some people that they came in acting positively and they were not. I can’t help people like that. If they are patient, open-minded, and positive I can help them."

When asked to comment on complaints posted on Ripoff Report's website Ms. Nelson expressed that the comments made were false and didn't align with her business model. Ms. Nelson stated the follow to assure future and current clients, "I am an executive level certified matchmaker and there are only a few of us in the country and that is through the Institute of Matchmaking. Then they will see every year we win Dan’s papers which is primarily Suffolk county here on Long Island for best dating service. What they factor in is Match.com and every kind of dating service out there. These awards are people that vote in. I am up against Tinder and all those swipe apps. For Nassau and Suffolk county combined there is the biggest award for every business owner. I think there are 3000 categories of businesses. What they do is they pick the top 3 that people vote in for. Every year I have come in the top 3. We were just notified this year that we came in first place. We are super excited because that is huge! I have citations from controllers on long island...the politicians...the county clerks. They can't be bought off and these are people in the community that have said hey there is a matchmaker here on Long Island who goes above and beyond for her clients and has given me awards. I have an A+ rating with the BBB. I am also a certified wedding officiant."

I have to agree with all of the complaints made prior to this one on this site. In addition, I would make the assumption that the service does not have as many men signed up as women and I would question how much the men pay for the service as well.   When she says the matches she sends you are according to your tastes and are "successful", the only criteria appears to be (and she even says) is that they signed up for her service and therefore, they have financial success for being able to pay for it.  Otherwise, there is not much rhyme or reason for getting matched up with people - it seems to be an automatic query.

I signed up for the "elite matchmaking" service which was supposed to provides 1:1 discussions, feedback with the matchmaker.  What i got in reality is a match emailed to me at her convenience based on attributes such as "kind, attractive, thoughtful, etc"  - all very vague so the pool is quite strange and anyone can be a match based on those attributes - she avoids the attributes that are more specific and when you sign up.  If you don't like the match, you have to wait for weeks to get another match and if you have anything to say to her about the matches she sends or her "process" or give her any sort of feedback even in a very cordial, polite way,  she very abruptly and rudely starts emailing  you that she has done this for 14 years and everyone loves her and you are the only one that has an issue - that her process is a proven process and nothing you can say can make it any better.

The staff will react similarly - you cannot give feedback because everything they do is right and they always know best - repeatedly the only response - there are no real conversations about it or any person "matchmaking" that take place just short retorts back.  The only thing i will say is that they will periodically send matches.  If you do give it a try, they get back to you a week or more later and then can get a mutual "yes".  they seem to be on holiday all of November and December and any holiday that falls on a Thursday or Friday, forget getting any correspondence those days. It's by far not a streamlined process but then god forbid you mention anything.  It's not so much the process  (which is very frustrating) but that it's not at all a person matchmaking elite service but is very expensive.  Every business evolves and listens to the voice of the customer in order to improve and stay in business.  This is does not.  They sell you on the fact you don't need to use other services or go to online dating - if that were the case, you would be a very lonely person.

 I would not advise anyone to spend the amount of money here because there are cheaper services that are better and this is truly a rip off for the price and customer service aspect vs the point of sale.   At the same time if you want to just go out for a drink and hang with just anybody then it's ok because she will send you someone or other eventually and she will advise you to say yes to all of course.  

 The men may have better luck I am sure because there are far fewer of them.  I would also state that she turns on you very soon after you sign up - very shortly after that you better not come back with ANY feedback because she refuses to acknowledge or act on anything you may say because she is always right - not the customer.  I mean i understand people are picky and it's a tough business but she sells a total fake elite service.  In conclusion, the primary problem with this expensive service is that you pay a lot of money for 1:1 matchmaking service which is sold to you as a mutual back and forth conversation ongoing between you and your matchmaker.   It turns out that you do not have any such time or given that opportunity - instead if you utter anything except an acceptance to her sending you matches whenever it suits and then if you say yes to a potential match you will probably wait a few more weeks to find out if they responded yes so the turnaround time is horrible and if you mention it to the staff you are always in the wrong and they know best how to run their business.  They will speak to you when they know you are on the brink of filing a report such as this one... I could add more as far as how they have responded...."

the matchmaker doesn't even know who i went out with

i never went out with 8 men - just fyi - i was sent 8 options perhaps.  In addition, when i came to her i just came out of a long relationship and she cannot even get the few facts straight.  I consider myself educated and somewhat successful -  She certainly didn't have to offer me any special money deals and as i said she charged $2000 for the year and i gave you my feedback.  She doesn't respond to any of it well.

just as a final note, to say i couldn't afford the service is ridiculous.  I paid $2,000 for the service which she gave me a deal because she could use someone like me because how "great" i was.  I don't know if people would agree that is a deal but there was no mention of me not affording any service!

I think my case has been proven by the owner's rebuttal. I think most men i actually tried going out with did try to contact me again but they were not at all what i was looking or asked for.  This is precisely how she reacts. She even had to talk about the accent which is i hardly have but doesn't surprise me.  Saying that i have a thick accent is rather laughable because i came to this country when i was a child but that's a bit of a low blow but doesn't surprise me in the least.  That is why i am saying stay away.

Dear Readers,

Please take a moment and reread the false accusations of this client, and how unprofessional she sounds. Ask yourself if any of what she says makes any sense after you hear the facts about her membership. 

The facts are I signed up this woman who from the start was simply unrealistic. She came to me after being unsuccessful in dating on her own. Most of the women who come to me can meet great quality guys, but do not have the time to look for love, and want me to do the screening process for them! That is why I have over 1000 success stories.

With this client, because she is Russian, she has a thick accent, which was unfortunately a road block with the men that she met. She began her membership in September 2014 and could not afford my high end program. I thought she was a kind person when I met her, so I gave her a discount so she could afford my program. Everyone knows I am the most affordable program in New York. 

I am shocked that out of my 1500 amazing clients, that she would ever say lies about my service, after all the special attention I gave her from day one, and all the extra time I spent in trying to make her successful. Since September 2014 I sent her a total of 17 men that had all 5 of her "requirements." She went out with 8 men since September! Why is she complaining? Why is she saying lies about my service? I do not know...

From day one, I went above and beyond to help her. The 8 great men she met through my service is proof of that! Truly, regardless of what she says, the proof is-that is a great track record. Again, I would think she would be very happy with my service. Every time she called to speak to me about her success-I always spoke to her personally and answered every one of her questions.

My staff always was there for her as well every time she had questions. We are all in shock that she would be so "mean" in writing this! 

The feedback from the men was simply that they had trouble understanding her English, and did not want to continue on with a relationship. As her matchmaker, I was not concerned with this because I have had many success stories of beautiful clients with accents! She also did not want relationships with the men, usually saying that they were not good enough for her. If she was more realistic, I am sure I could have made her successful! 

One man gave me feedback which at the time I didn't believe. He said, "watch out for her, she has a mean streak in her," and that is why he didn't want to continue dating her. Now I see for myself he was right.

Now that you have the facts, I assure you, please do not believe these lies...

Her lies are as follows:

We have plenty of men, which is obvious in the fact that she met with 8 of them since only September 2014.

Her questioning how much the men paid is ridiculous, since I gave her a discount so she could afford the program. The men can all afford the program because I am the most affordable service in New York with the highest record of success-and the men are all financially stable.

She received one on one service from me; every time she called I talked to her personally. I don't know why she would ever say otherwise.

She was matched based upon the 5 must haves that she gave me. Which in her case were: wealthy, successful, smart, attractive and kind. She received 17 men who fit that bill since September! She said NO to 7 men, saying they were not good enough.

Recently, she wanted to add a 6th requirement of a man with a Masters Degree, which I told her that wouldn't be in her best interest. Perhaps that is why she is doing this to my reputation? However, it is my job to make sure my clients are being realistic and I tell everyone the truth-not just tell them what they want to hear.

For the record, my clients are matched up based upon 3 parts of compatibility along with their 5 "must haves." That was always done for her. Again, the proof is she met 8 amazing men!

Why is she saying we took off in November and December? I do not know why she would say that! We did take off for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, as did almost every business. I am sure even the most skeptical person would understand us taking off for those two holidays to be with our families!

Lastly, thank you readers for taking the time to read the FACTS. I hope you can understand that in 14 years of Matchmaking, there will be some clients who are not realistic, and even some who for some reason turn "mean." This is the case here. This client quit the program after I told her I couldn't add a 6th requirement of a man who also has a masters degree. There are always going to be some people that complain about services that they pay for. Truly, I am shocked beyond belief this client would ever be one of them! After she quit the program, I left her a message to change her mind and to help her. However, after seeing this report of lies, I do not want to work with her anymore. I now accept her "quitting the program."
