Nasa FCU has some of the lowest mortgage rates you can get.  But it comes at a cost: extreme incompetence.  At least I don't think it was intentional, but there may have been some shenanigans going on given that they refused to tell me how much to bring to closing right up to the day of closing.

Almost every single document they gave me was wrong.  They either would not or could not correct the documentation, either verbally or on paper.  The dates were wrong and not even consistent.  The discount points were wrong.  At one point they tried to get me to agree to more points because they accidentally agreed to the wrong number, although they did back down on this one thing, but they still overcharged me in the end.  I had to come up with over $10,000 cash on the day of settlement because they lied about the amount of the loan.  About the only number they got right was the rate.

In addition to the above, they had to lock my loan twice because they couldn't get a relatively straight forward refinance done in the 60 (or possibly 30 or 45, but nobody really knows) day period.  They were still asking for important documentation several days before closing.  Of course, I didn't know we were a week within closing because they refused to tell me when closing would be.  Also, they changed the HUD-1 at closing and never gave me a copy.

I contacted various regulatory agencies, but they refused to do anything because these were investor loans.  Actually, one of them had been my primary residence, but I was staying with relatives at the time, so I financed it as an investment property; however the regulatory agencies didn't seem to care.  Ironically, Nasa FCU sent me paper work such as the good faith estimate (which was wrong of course) that would normally be sent to owner occupants who are protected under the law.  I don't think they were trying to be clever and fool me into believing I was protected by the law, however.  I think they were probably just too incompetent to realize it wasn't required.
