October 2007, I received a fax telling about low cost insurance - the fax even stated "This is NOT a discount medical plan". It was $299 for single and $369 for families. My husband teaches at a public high school and the insurance rates there are RIDICULOUS, so obviously I called to check it out. I was told this amazing pack of lies by a RICHARD B at ext 413.

I have a son with medical problems, so asked whether he would have a rider on his pre-existing conditions. I was told no, every condition is accepted, no riders. I asked specific questions about prescription co-pays and was told that the exact medication that my son takes was on the $10 copay list. I was told that the reason we could get such a good rate and benefits like the ones described to me was because this was a HUGE nationwide group of self-insured families banded together to form a group large enough to get a group health insurance plan, thus the no pre-existing conditions. I called back a second time and spoke with ANDY ALEXANDER at ext 410 and was given the same pack of lies.

My husband and I discussed it at length and decided that because we were guaranteed our money back - in 30 days...HA - we should go for it. What did we have to lose? Apparently our $494, that's what.

We were told that our $369 monthly fee plus $125 enrollment fee would be taken our of our account sometime between October 11th and the 18th. You can bet that it was gone by the time I got up on the 11th.

They also told me that I could use my credit/debit card if I wanted, but there was a monthly service charge that way. I could set it up to have my money taken out of my account directly for no charge. Oh, the red flags that should have gone up for me! Looking back, they're smart enough to know that if you pay with your debit or credit card, YOU HAVE RIGHTS, so they found a way to talk you out of that.

November 1st came and went with no cards. I started calling on the 5th and after holding more than 3 hours a day for the entire WEEK, I still wasn't able to get a person to answer the phone and tell me where my cards were. I finally spoke with a person on the 7th and was told that the cards were mailed out on the 1st...must be a delay in the mail, I was told. They did give me their website, though. When I went online and found their "handbook", all of the lies I was told came out. I was LIVID. I cancelled immediately via fax, letter, AND email. No response. So I proceeded to email and fax several times a day until a week later I finally got an email saying they'd received my request.

I was promised that my refund would arrive in 30 days. That came and went. I started calling again, never holding for less than half an hour at a time. Then I was told my name wasn't on any cancellation list. You can imagine the *#%@ I raised at that. Then they magically found my name and it was on a list for checks to be cut on December 7th. That never happened. I continued to call.

Then my check was to be cut at the end of the year, they were just waiting for the enrollment fee to be returned from the agent. Then it was in the mail, call back if it wasn't to me by Jan 15th. It wasn't. Then most recently, towards the end of January, I was told that the reason for delay was because the National Alliance of Associations had taken the "insurance" company behind them to court to recover our money, and that they were also suing for damages on our behalf. They were to go infront of a judge within the week and I should have my money and then some by the end of the month. I told them that was funny, I'd think that if my name was being used in a lawsuit I might have been notified. At that the line went dead. The website is now shut down and the phone number no good.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...BE A WISER CONSUMER THAN I WAS AND DON'T FALL FOR THIS SCAM. REMEMBER WHAT YOUR MAMA TOLD YOU...IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY IS.

BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!!
