Received a letter and a check from Nationla Marketing in Ajax, ON Canada. It reads like this:
Award Claim Notification Final Notice
We have made unsuccessful attempts to contact you regarding your COnsumer Rewards Program winning. Your name attached to ticket number 3749065 drew the lucky winning ticket.
Your lump sum payout is US $8,000. Congratulations.
Kindly contact Barbra Thompson at 1-905-598-0728 as soon as you receive this notice for further instructions on how to claim your grand winning.
We have enclosed a check for the sum of US$986.77. Per your state regulations, you will be required to pay a tax and processing fee before your lump sum winning can be sent to you. Payment will be made directly to your tax agent. You will also need to fax you (sic) tax payment receipt to the fax number above.

The check looks real and is drawn on Wachovia Bank in Racine, WI.. When I called, I found out there IS no branch in Wisconsin.

After looking through the site and all the reports, I see that Barnes Marketing and National Marketing may be the same company i.e. scams.
My letter is from National Marketing, but others have exactly the same letter, even the same typo ('you' instead of 'your') from Barnes Marketing.
Seems they have changed their name and town In Ontario, but same amount and everything else.
Anyone know if I take the check and letter to the police, can they do anything about it? Can my bank?
