About 30 days ago I had the tires on my Mazda rotated at the St. Louis Park, MN National Tire and Battery store and left believing the car was safe to drive.  What they failed to do was tighten the lug nuts down on both of the rear wheels.  While driving I noticed a noise in the rear of the car getting louder and louder.  I pulled over to discover the right rear wheel was about ready to fall off the car.  After tightening the wheel back down and adding two new lug nuts I returned to the store the next day.  The Manager, Scott Gamble, immediately denied the incident could happen.  After he inspected the car he claimed a small amount of corrosion caused both of the rear wheels to almost fall off.  Obviously this was an absurd statement and he would not take responsibility for his shops dangerously negligent work.   He would not refund my money for the tire rotation and was confrontational the entire time.  No apology was given and he could have cared less my two passengers and I could have been killed as a result of his shops work.

Similar maltreatment by Manager @ same NTB in St. Louis Park

We had a similar rip-off happen to us in dealing with NTB's manager, Jason Sieling in St. Louis Park. An expensive center cap part was broken by one of the technicians during their installation of our tires on 02/16/2014. We have had over a dozen phone calls with manager (Jason Sieling) respectfully requesting that he replace the part they broke. To date, we've not had any luck getting the broken part from NTB.  See our forthcoming rip-off report!

What the Manager Scott Gamble is writing is only partly true and really shows his lack of integrity and hows hes trying to cover this up.  Believe whom you want but the bottom line is Ive had this car for 12 years and three sets of tires and never had a problem. The tires were rotated by him two week earlier then both back wheels come lose at 65mph on Hwy 100.  It was only because I had the radio turned off and heard a howling sound then clunk, clunk, clunk coming from the backend of my car that I immediately stopped and no damage occurred.  I guess having to add lug nuts at 10:30pm alongside the road and retighten down the wheels is not a problem in Scotts book or even a safety issue.  I did ask for a $20.00 refund for the tire rotation and that was denied.  You decide

Loose wheel

I want to comment on this report because he is making it personal by using names. The car was brought into our shop for maintenance services and with that a tire rotation. The one thing I will admit our shop failed to do was we did not inform the customer that the alloy wheels had a lot of corrosion on the surface that contacts the hub. (still have pictures on my phone to prove how bad it was) We should have offered to clean the corrosion off before tightening the wheels onto the car. My general service technician failed to give us that information which is wrong and I would appologize for that.

The claim that his wheels almost came off is false and I know this because I personally removed the wheels to check for damage. The corrosion was not disturbed at all which means the wheel was not loose. (I'm not saying that the lug nut could not have been loose) But if a vehicle is driven while a wheel is loose there is considerable damage caused almost immediately. The holes the lug nuts go through on the wheel would have thread marks from contacting the wheel studs and when it gets real loose the holes in the wheels get oblong. I brought the customer back in the shop to show him there was no damage at all!!! He was very abusive from the moment he came through the door.  I admit that the moment someone accuses me of doing wrong I get defensive. Normally I would bend over backward to help a customer in a bad situation like this. He did not have any interest in having the issue corrected. He just wanted finacial compensation. How do you put a price on this? So I asked what he wanted. He wanted over $325.00 returned to him. The total of the repairs that were performed when the rotation was done. I'm thinking that is excessive for the situation.

He had no complaints of the other services that were performed that day or the many other previous visits. I know that we are not without blame.. What is fair is the question. Why does this customer have to make it sound way worse than it was. No ones lives were at stake, as he claims. The other reason I know the wheels were not left loose is because our company's policy is that every car that has the wheels removed is to have a second person check the torque. The service manager had signed off on the repair order and he would never sign the document unless he did. His job is at stake. I know that this is two people telling different stories and you have no way to know who is telling the truth, but I have pictures just like him and if you notice he is not claiming damage was done to his vehicle. That is also key. People like this get under my skin. He is calling me a bad person and he does not know me at all. I have a lot of integrity in a business that generally doesn't. I feel it's their loss because even though our shop is not perfect, it is honest!!!!!! September 10th 2012.
