I set out to find a moving company that would agree to move us for a reasonable fee. I put my name on an online list to be contacted by movers.

I was contacted by Rick Daly of Nationwide Relocation Services a moving Broker. He promises the following:

1. A complete, professional Door-to-Door move.

2. Blanket wrapping of standard furniture to ensure household goods are protected.

3. Disassembly and reassembly of standard furniture.

4. Taxes, tolls, fuel, fuel surcharges, standard labor, reasonable stair, and elevator carry charges.

5. Standard liability coverage ($.60 per lb. /per article, by law!).

6. Pick-up delivery dates are verified in advance.

7. To be our personal liaison with guaranteed Quality Assurance and Customer Service!

Rick Daly provided an unconfirmed estimate to move 5000lbs from Flagstaff to AZ. He confirmed the additional price for insurance and that Nationwide only works with the top five moving companies including Shamrock etc.

I called Rick and set up a time for my mother to call and give him her credit card to pay them and have them call a moving company to confirm dates.
I explained to Rick:
1. I needed the items moved out of Flagstaff on Saturday June 9 because I was based in San Francisco and had to fly to Arizona.
2. It didn't matter when they delivered but they HAD to confirm because I needed to be present to arrange a street blocking permit
3. Any paperwork that was to be exchanged with my mother needed to be copied to me because she was in a compromised state that didn't facilitate her being the sole recipient of legally binding information
We confirmed with Rick that we would be provided Customer Care by working through them. They promised to arrange and organize all correspondence with the trucking company and to provide a guaranteed delivery time with them. He also guaranteed that Nationwide only used the top 5 moving companies.

2. Move in Date: Saturday June 16 or sooner as long as there is adequate notice
3. A Direct Contact Number for the Moving Company

1. Hes taken over Ricks Accounts
2. Nationwide will not be negotiating with the company
3. I can contact my mover Alliance on my own with any questions

I call nationwide Customer Service to speak with a dispatcher. I explain that I need to know immediately if the move out is going to happen as planned because if not I have to cancel my flight to Flagstaff (you must cancel with 24 -48 hours notice to avoid penalty charges)
I called the Nationwide dispatcher and received a trainee. The trainees manager was talking over the shoulder of the trainee and informs me that the business of my move had been given to a new company Sirena moving. Im given a cell phone as a contact number

Sirena moving truck arrives I call Maya to apologize for the frantic calling and let her know they are there

Mover 1 Amer talks about how drunk he was the night before - how he told his wife (Maya who's running the company from her cell phone) that she should call us and say that the truck broke down because they are hung over.

He wants to know what we drink - he says we should go get drunk in Phoenix with him. He said, Things in Kosovo are done differently, and he had a friend in the moving business who's client didn't pay him for the load and he said - I ask my friend why didn't you just kill him"

Mover 2 Jasmin showed us the mark in the back of the head where American b***h hit him with a lead pipe then stole his kids. Now he can't smell or taste anything he says. Before they leave I impress to Amer again how important it is that they tell me when they are delivering because I have to get a permit from the city of Seattle. I asked him for his cell phone number. He said No my wife will call you people say I sound scary on the phone.

They drive away at 18:00 I never see the Arriving or Departure Cat Scales though I am promised a copy

She calls back and says we have another load to deliver in San Francisco. We will deliver your stuff Friday. I say If it needs to be later than Friday I need to know right away because Im flying up and I have a permit for Friday only. Can you guarantee Friday she says yes

My sister says I thought the truck was broken down in Southern California
Maya says No sorry I meant Arizona
My sister says So is it fixed?
Maya says Were waiting for one part
My sister says For the transmission
Maya says For the air conditioning
The conversation goes on and the flight attendant tells us we have to turn off our phones. Maya says the truck will be there late Saturday night which they are getting the part and leaving Phoenix at 3am. She says she will call by 9:30 the next day

That they have 2 weeks to deliver and that it doesnt matter that they confirmed the date with us even though Leigh told me I was to confirm dates with them we ask to speak to a manager. She says she will have a manager call us

1. Nationwide is requiring a reweigh of the freight because the original Cat Scale slip wasnt returned in the 30 minute time frame required
2. We would have a renegotiation conference call with Cicely, Nationwide and my sister to discuss how we would be compensated for the amount of money we had lost
3. Shes able to contact Maya (she has not provided us with the status report she promised) who says that the truck is still broken and did not leave at 3am as she said it would

1. Nationwide is not demanding a reweigh
2. Nationwide can only suggest that Sirena Compensate us but they can not force or advocate on our behalf
I ask for her supervisors information. She says she will have her call me

I call Sarah and she confirms that Nationwide will not renegotiate or advocate for us in any way. I ask for her supervisors name and she says I will have her call you she never did

I call Sirena Moving: Maya answers and says They are in San Francisco I thought they would be there today and then I map-quested from San Francisco to Seattle and its much farther than I thought. They will be there tonight and can unload at midnight
I said lets say Tuesday at 10 instead so they have time for whatever next catastrophe to happen and for them to recuperate and then theyll actually be there
She says Ok This has been very frustrating me probably you too. Amer says you are nice girl. Also you know your load is overweight and you have to pay the entire balance in cash (my mom already had a money order made out to them that she couldnt refund Im looking at the Nationwide contract that says you can pay with cashiers check, money order or cash)
I say We have a cashiers check
She says We wont deliver unless there is the total $2713.21 cash waiting for us. We will drive away

We are now talking to Brenda the head of Customer Service she calls and says that Sirena has declined our request for compensation.
I ask Now what do I do next? Is Nationwide going to compensate me for my losses since Sirena has declined
Brenda replies Your claim has been sent to our compensation claims office and they will determine if we are to compensate you that is all we can to get you compensation

My sister has had a conference call with Maya and Brenda to ensure that Sirena moving would accept our cashiers check and that Maya would call me with status updates at 18:00 and at 23:00 Throughout Monday I sent out over 6 emails to different personnel at Nationwide. Not one person responded

Sirena calls and says they are 300 miles outside of Seattle. She says they will stay at a hotel and be at my moms at 07:00 or 08:00 in the morning. She says she will call and confirm when they stop for the night and an hour before they arrive at the apartment.

I finally am connected to a Nationwide dispatcher Sarah. Sarah will not pass my calls to any of the representatives I had been working with. She will not transfer me to Brenda, or Sarah or Cicely in person. I ask then to please wait on the line until one of them becomes available and she hangs up on me

Finally a call back Brenda. I say Where is she we have payment in full waiting she has legally stolen my mothers furniture and Im going to call the police Brenda gets a hold of her and the truck is blocks away. She has to accept the check and now she wants the verification numbers before they get to the house. I dont have the check or the numbers to give them because Im in San Francisco. I tell her to go to the apartment. Finally they pull up in front and my dad sees them. Neither of my parents have cell phones. I ask him to please call when they start moving in. My divorced father and mother have been in the same empty room since 10 am

I realize they have been standing on the curb for an hour and now Sirena Moving not only has my mothers furniture but also all the money.

Tom calls me back. I tell him they have payment in full and the furniture. I tell him I am going to call the police and anyone else who will listen. He assures me they will take the check and that he will be available until everything is moved in He gives me his cell phone number

I call Tom back and thank him for being the one person to help. I ask that he contact Maya at Sirena Moving and tell her that I will not be in contact with her directly anymore. I also ask to not be contacted by anyone at Nationwide other than Brenda or Tom. He says he understands and says hell call Maya. Her calls stop.

My mom calls me Someone at Nationwide has called her for the rescale receipt Though requested by me and supposedly by Nationwide this re-weigh never happened or if it did it bore no consequence on the total price paid to Sirena Moving. To date we have never seen the original cat scale determining the weight of the truck empty, the second cat scale receipt for the truck full or the reweigh cat scale receipt promised to verify the price we paid to Sirena was accurate. We have requested these receipts on numerous occasions from both Nationwide and Sirena directly.

Nationwide calls. Theyve looked over the specifics of my case and feel that compensation is required though they can not compensate the full $1300 requested they feel that $193 is fair compensation. $100 for the lost permit and $93 an amount calculated without explanation. Fair Payment Shirley from compensation said. I said no I do not accept your compensation offer and I am going to contact my attorney. Total Spent excluding fees to nationwide and Sirena: 2,300 (price of the original flights, hotel, car, permit, cleaners deposit that were mute and the price of the next flight (for me only my sister cant take more time off work) permit, truck, hotel
Total Lost $1300
My parents time (15.5 hours total) at $10 an hour $155
My time at $1 per phone call - $90
Total $1545

DO NOT WORK WITH THESE COMPANIES. Work directly with your movers. Check the Better Business Bureau for reports before you go for the good deal. Pay more and stress less.
