Because of limited funds, I was trying to find the best and most reasonable price for a cross country move. This was the longest distance I had ever moved and was not sure what to expect. I found thsi service on the internet and when I contacted them they seemed very helpful, even stating they were giving a 75% discount on prices through December 31st. I described to them what my household consisted of (2 story, 2 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath townhouse with an attached shed plus a 10' by 5' off sit storage unit) and also told them that once I started packing there would probably be lots of smaller boxes as I was disabled and unable to lift anything that was too heavy.

They never sent anyone out to my home and just gave me an estimate which I thought was based on what I was telling them. The original price was over $5,000 but when they took the discount off it came down to just under $2000 total price. Since they had the discount I decided to go with them. Big mistake!!!!!!!

Every time they checked back with me while I packed I indicated how many boxes I had and even added some furniture I had forgotten. I also took furniture off my list as I sold it to try to make the load lighter. They even faxed a Binding Estimate to me with the cost which I read, signed and faxed back to them.

In the end, I did not know who was actually picking my items up until I got the call from the moving company (Best Price Moving and Storage - see my other report) with a date and time of pickup.

It is now apparent that this company rountinely underestimates the loads in order to get the business, then bids the job out to the mover that thinks they can do it and then claims no responsibility when the binding estimate isn't honored.

Watch out - this is a classic bait and switch with a bit of breach of contract thrown in.

called them per their request

As per their request, I called the number given in the response.  In talking with "Cheryl" it appeared that all of the sudden, two years after the move, they want to make an offer to settle.  Problem was, their offer was insulting!  I lost over $1000+ worth of items that were either broken or lost/stolen by the their subcontractor, and that was over and above what I filed with my insurance company and the $500 deductible on my insurance.  In order to set up housekeeping I had to purchase plates, utensils, pans, vacuum,  etc at the cost of another $400.  I am still notating things that I no longer have.  I have hundreds of photos showing that every box, whether it was cardboard or plastic, had one or  more holes in it, as if someone was deliberately looking for things that might be good for resale.

I countered with a figure that I thought was more reasonable and haven't heard from them since!  So watch out if you respond to their request for you to call to try to "correct the problems that occurred with your move."   They will try to low ball you a figure to make you "go away."  My opinion is that the Feds must be leaning on them real hard at this point......why else would they make overtures after two years when they refused arbitration right after the move?
