I wish I had found this site BEFORE I was also screwed by Nationwide Relocation Services!! I was quoted $4289 to move just over 8000 pounds from Indiana to Arizona. I paid what I was told was a deposit of $1233 toward this move. As others have stated, I was later informed (after the screwing began) that this was NOT a deposit, but a broker's fee for Nationwide.

Instead of the reputable moving company I was promised, I was stuck with Ferrari Movers, who did not have weight tickets when they arrived (OR the large crew to expedite the move I had been told to expect...2 movers showed up). Instead, they were going to go off of cubic feet. Our protests led to a promise that the truck would be weighed, but that we probably had about 12000 pounds. We paid $4031 by credit card, although we were led by Nationwide to believe that payment was made at DELIVERY, not PICKUP. However, when everything you own is on a truck, you don't argue.

We called Ferrari when we arrived in Arizona and were told that we had 12000 pounds, but that they would only charge us for 10000 UNLESS we called Nationwide. If we called Nationwide, they would report the 12000 pounds. Not realizing that Nationwide was just as disreputable as Ferrari, I called and reported this threat, and the nightmare began.

$120 in cell phone charges later, we had been told how it was not unusual to be over by 4000 pounds, how we didn't understand how moving estimates worked, how we probably had marble table tops, etc. etc. and that basically we should just roll over and let them screw us. We were told that there were weight tickets FROM THE HOME TOWN OF THE MOVERS. We protested that these movers were not honest and we didn't trust them not to have loaded the truck with anything necessary to make the weight come out to 12000 pounds. We were told that delivery would be on May 21, and that we would see weight tickets at that point. However, we owed them another $867.27, AND OUR DEPOSIT DIDN'T COUNT.

To make a long story short (too late, I know) we received delivery on May 28, a week late, received NO compensation, have seen NO weight tickets, have seen NO bill of lading, and were told by the driver that if we wanted the truck reweighed, we had to pay a $300 service fee. He also told us he didn't need to give us a receipt for the $798 CASH we gave him (do we know how they came up with that amount?? NO, since we have seen no paperwork) because our paperwork from Nationwide was a receipt. Need I say that we forced him to write a receipt in front of a neighbor?

Bottom line: $6062 for a $4289 move and no paperwork showing what I paid for. If this is the kind of service you want, go through Nationwide. Otherwise, find your own fly-by-night moving company in the yellow pages and cut out the middleman.
