BBB REVIEW IS BAD: http://www.bbb.org/phoenix/Business-Reviews/opticians/nationwide-vision-center-in-chandler-az-13755/Complaints/#breakdown

THE PRESCRIPTION I WAS GIVEN FOR CONTACTS FROM NATIONWIDE IS WRONG. -

I paid cash out of pocket for everything. No insurance, no payment plans...and here is how I was treated:

1. CUSTOMER SERVICE SALESPEOPLE: The salespeople are very deceitful.
I only dealt with one, but he is the manager of this store.
He is the only one I have ever seen there, and I've been to this location three times. His name is Kurt, he stands about 5'5", wears glasses, and has very short cropped hair. He's a white male in his 40s, I think, around there.

Kurt tried to siphon money out of me for features I both did not want and directly stated were undesirable for my situation.

For the glasses:

He did not tell me that unframed half-lenses needed to be polycarbonate...an extra $40.00 charge per lens that he tried to sneak in to the payment before without informing me about it until I asked.

He then tried to quietly slip in transition lenses on top of this for another $60.00 per pair without informing me!

At first, Kurt quoted me $129.99 per pair and that was that. When I asked him if that was all I would be paying for them, Kurt responded, "Well, let's just pick out your glasses first, we'll sit down in a bit and ring you up." But then I noticed a few minutes later that the total charges for one pair of eyeglasses came to almost $300.00! He never adequately explained how $129.00 turned into $300.00.

I figured out that he did this by charging me for extra features that I not only did not ask for, but which came optional for the eyeglasses I was considering. They were not required features.

I had to press him, repeatedly, for more information about the charges in the payment. He made me feel rushed and tried to hurry me through my order and through my questions. At one point he simply lied: he claimed that he would not ring me up for transitions after I requested they be removed from the order, then at the last minute he quickly switched to a screen and added them back on again. I saw him do this but waited until the purchase confirmation showed the extra $120.00, which I asked him about, to which he said, "I thought you wanted them, but OK, we'll go ahead and take them off...whenever you've made up your mind, go ahead and let me know."

He was reluctant to show me my purchase detail until I asked him why the totals were so high. When I had him break it down, he acted like I should have known that the extra, unknown charges of polycarbonate, transition lenses would be included.

He clearly tried to rush me through my eyeglasses order...then...

For the contacts:

Kurt deceived me again when he claimed that I had to with a certain brand of contact because "...that's what the doctor said you needed."

This is completely untrue. Several brands offer what I need and I never once made an indication for a brand preference while with that doctor. Ever. I found immedately upon returning home that the brand they forced on me was hundreds of dollars more expensive than other brands that had received better reviews and that offered what I needed at much better prices.

Kurt, the manager at this store, lies about charges to increase his commission at this store, while attempting to make people feel rushed and guilty for asking questions.

2. EXAM SERVICE AND PRODUCT: During my trial pair phase, I made several calls asking for replacements because the ones they gave me physically irritated my eyes, they blurred images unless I was looking at things dead on, and they completely diffused and even DUPLICATED light sources at night: I would see double upon wearing these things at night. They were extremely irritating to wear.
No amount of patience or adjustment (what little one can adjust in a contact) helped...after 2 weeks!

My calls to replace the temporaries were met with, "Well, the contacts you ordered should be here in a few days anyway and we don't have any more of the temps that we gave you. You'll have to wait until your new ones come in."
I had a bad feeling the doc screwed up my prescription, but I waited as told for another week for my ordered contacts to arrive...and upon arrival, MY ORDERED CONTACTS, JUST AS I SUSPECTED, HAD THE SAME D@MN PROBLEMS! It was clear from the beginning that I received a bad prescription here.

Now, I've got $400.00 worth of bad contacts I cannot use.

3. HORRIBLE CORPORATE ATTITUDE AND TREATMENT: After patiently dealing with the horrible product forced upon me that I had paid way too much for, I decided to exercise my right to return this product. Because I had had such a horrible experience with Kurt the manager in the past, I did NOT want to speak with him. I asked for Corporate number first, who promptly redirected me back to Kurt.

A girl by the name of DANIELLE answered at

480-961-1865 (Nationwide Vision Center Corporate Office)

I called this number asking for a refund of everything. Danielle answered, and when I asked to speak with someone concerning a refund, she dumped me into a voice mail. Just right off the bat..she clicked me over without even a "Fu6k y@u." I was just suddenly in a VM box like, "Really?"
I called back. This is what she told me when I asked to speak with someone live: "Well, we get this all the time. You'll just have to leave a voice mail. No one is in the office to take your complaint."
I asked her if the voice mail I'd been dropped to was a department or individual number. She told me that this was an individual number....to...

John Skates, Regional Manager, Nationwide Vision Center

I asked her when this person would be back in his office and what his normal office hours were.
Danielle told me that John Skates, like all corporate managers, do not work at an office, but instead, they check in to their voice mails only three times a day.

I have asked for a refund of not just product, but also the exam fee: I received a bad prescription.

I have received no answers from anyone at Nationwide Corporate concerning my request for full refund.
