In 2002 I applied for a credit card with the Navy Federal Credit Union. I thought I was doing the smart thing by taking out payment protection. Eleven years later I need to utilize the insurance only to find out that there are so many hurdles and rules in place that there is no way the average person would be able to use the protection. So I have faithfully been paying the payment protection plan and when I make a claim I am told that I am denied. That I cannot use it because I was working for Navy Federal was let go, they considered it a temporary job and the insurance won't pay if youve been working a temporay job. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever plan or want to be in the position that I would want to have to use the insurance, but now that I am to be told that I have paid all that money and won't get anything when I need it is unbelievable. Its a rip off. Everytime I talked to the people they told me the hurdles I had to jump before they would pay, now a month into it, I am told that I am not covered. I have been a member of Navy Federal for 41 years. I have done all my banking with them. I am not unsatisifed with them in the large part, but I would caution anyone from taking out payment protection on any loan or credit card or any other financial transaction, as the insurance is basically set up so that there is no situation where it will pay, or the situations where is will pay only apply to the minority and the majority of the people who pay in have wasted their money.

BEWARE Navy Federal Credit Union and Cuna Mutual

AUTHOR: Vie - ()

POSTED: Thursday, May 16, 2013

Today I received a telephone call from an employee at Cuna Mutual, the Insurance company who provides the payment protection policy for Navy Federal Credit Union. Ami did not advise that she was calling from Cuna, but did advise that I could qualify for $25,000 which was being given away tomorrow, if I provide some personal information. I did not give any information, but I did call the number back, got voicemail from Cuna Mutual, and at the end it said to dial zero if I needed immediate assistance. I dialed zero. Asked to speak to a supervisor, was given the runaround. Five people later I spoke with a person who said they were a supervisor. I explained what had happened and Laurie, the Supervisor, adivsed that the number I was called from was not one of their numbers, that there were alot of people other than Cuna Mutual who had the Area Code 319 followed by 483 in Waverly, Iowa, that she could find no record of that number. I pointed out to her that I dialed zero and spoke to a representative within her company and that if the number does not belong to someone within their company that should be a bigger concern to them, because someone was getting information from within their company records and using that information to mine personal information from those records. I was promised a return telephone call today. I did not receive that call so I called back the number and extension I had been provided by Laurie. It was not a good number. So I started back were I began. I ended up being transfered to a customer service representative in Dallas-Texas. It was finally confirmed that the number that called me came from within their company. But it didn't seem to be important to the Manager, Michelle that I was finally able to speak to, that someone within their company was calling clients trying to mine personal information on the pretext of qualifying for a $25,000 giveaway tomorrow. Six hours later I still have no answer. And everyone has gone home for the day.
