I am absolutely floored and feel like someone totally riped me off with my hopes to have my hospital bill taken care of, or at least a good part of it.

I was in Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for a heart attack that occurred while I was at Yellowstone Park. I am uninsured and devastated knowing this hospital bill will be huge. I asked to talk to a social worker and she said I didn't qualify for any local assistance since I was out of state. She said there was an independent agency that can help with financial assistance.

Michelle Horton came in, a NCO representative, and told me there was a medical assistance just for people like me that were out of state and that they could probably write off the whole amount of my hospital bill. I was absolutely delighted! My helicopter flight out of Yellowstone itself cost $13,000.00. But I didn't know that at the time.

Anyway, there was something odd about her but I couldn't put my finger on it. I just hoped she was right. I felt relieved and told my family that I can probably qualify for this assistance. She did not mention money in any way. I guess that's what I thought might be suspiscious. Or maybe too good to be true. But she said it and I believed her. She gave me a instruction sheet which said I needed to send all of this information to them. I sent them last years federal tax return and a copy of my last pay stub. NCO is a collection agency!! What the hell! No body in their right mind would send their personal information to a collection agency!

I was totally lied to! Now, they respond back to me saying I am denied any charity discount because I exceed the Federal Poverty Charity Guidelines. And they demand full payment Now! I didn't work for a month because of the heart attack. I just started a new job prior to going to Yellowstone and had only been orienting. I'm only a 2 to 3 days a week person anyway. I am not married. My income is way down from last year. I am absolutely flabbergasted that they snookered me this way. This is Fraud!

See who owns the loan

AUTHOR: Nikki - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, September 14, 2007

Call the hospital and find out if they own the loan and NCO is collecting, or if NCO has purchased the loan. Even though my hospital turned my bill over to a collection agency, it is for collecting purposes only and they do not own it. So I made arrangements with the hospital to pay $25 per month (forever, haha!). I faithfully pay $25 per month directly to the hospital and I do not have the debt listed on the credit reports. This way, everytime NCO calls, you can tell them you already made this month's payment to the hospital.

However, that only works per account. If you owe one bill to the hospital, one bill to the doctor, one bill for the flight, etc, you must make payment arrangements with each one.

You don't list it, so I hope you didn't send NCO your banking info. If you did, close your account and open one at another bank. As for your pay stubs, the hospital probably has your employer listed in their records anyway. As for your tax forms, the hospital also has your SS#. So as long as you didn't send NCO your banking info, they don't have anything they couldn't have gotten from the hospital anyway.
