After paying on my loan for 3 years the payment amount at the bottom of each statement starting saying $0 due. This went on for a year. My loan was automatically deferred due to late payments. I am not denying I was late on my payments, sometimes up to a month, and I'm not denying that I was relieved when the payments were $0 and never really questioned it much. My point is just that the communication in regards was nill. I did not find out until that following year why it was deferred. My biggest problem with Nelnet comes from a recent phone call I received from one of the reps who said my payment was late. I knew I had paid it, since I was now a regulay on time bill payer, and checked my bank account with whom I do online bill pay. It showed that check to have been cashed from my account into thiers the week prior. I told him this and he said I would have to prove it, at which point I started to get angry. I told him that since I was not the one to have lost it they need to look around for it and if it could not be found then they needed to do some investigating in to who was cashing thier checks but not reporting payments. Although, this is an important matter there are bigger priorities that need to be delt with first but I intend to go through the last seven years worth of my student loan files and make sure they are doing what they are suppose to. I have been paying $85-150 a month since 2002 (sans the one year it was deferred )on a $9000 loan, my balance is still at $6000.

The third sentence doesnt make sense. Loans are not automatically deferred due to late payments, you have to do something with them. It looks like you later clarify that for yourself down below. Okay, we'll set that aside for ya, that being said, a payment can't just be "tracked down" by nelnet, it would take months to find one single check that was sent in 10 days prior to a payment being due and if it were mailed it may not have even gotten there yet. Worse yet, if you didnt put your account information on it or it was illegable, they're not going to touch it. They're's not just one little tiny room with one little tiny person, its a whole department of people processing millions of payments a day and not just check payments.


As far as communication goes, YOU are responsible for your student loans, they're going to give you your curtosey statement and any info you request, that's pretty well it. Hope this helps some.
