I went to  a local Best Buy and Purchased a WiFi signal booster to enhance my wifi wirless router in my apartment. When I got home, I had trouble installing the cd onto my desk top computer. My desk top computer is less than 2 years old so i know the operating system was compantible.

When I called the netgear 800 tech support , of course I was routed to someone in "India" ( no surprise )..The female rep asked for permission to remote network directly to my desktop so that she could see what the issues were. I gave her permission to do so.

While im not a computer genius , I could tell that she was remotely accessing information on my computer totally not relivent to the task at hand. She explained she was going to run a system diagnostic on my computer to see if all programs were up to date, any errors, viruses and to see if my operating system was compatible.

She NEVER stated she was going to be downloading software onto my computer..She installed a program called "iyogi" and she went through the whole spill and presentation in showing me how it worked. Basically a cut of the mill computer clean up program to defrag, clean garbage etc etc. She went on to say i had an OLD operating system and my computer is 10 years old and not compatible . She stated that she was going to suggest I PURCHASE a "full" version of the iyogi which could clean my system, computer and get it where it needed to be in order to work the wifi booster better.

I explained to her my computer is 2 years old and is compatible. I KNOW how to clean the computer myself and didnt need any other software and wasnt interested in purchasing a $49.00 a month service and $129 up front fee.

She stated that was my only option other than buying a new computer. I then explained to her I would do a system restore and run my own diagnostic and call back the next day for assistance. suddenly she disconnected the call without word and then I noticed my computer was downloading other software I didnt authorize. I immediately disconnected from the remote network and every since, my computer has iyogi software I CANNOT uninstall. My system is acting slower, and all sorts of crazy things..

Beware this company netgear. They outsource to India, and when you call for tech support and give permission for them to remote network into your computer, youll get more problems than you started with.

Im STRONGLY considering suing them for damaging my computer, and illegally installing maleware software I did not authorize.
