Buyers Beware!!! I have just had the most unethical run in with a used car dealership that operates by the name of Newport Motors INC. UBI number: 601557408 The registered agent on file for this corporation is Timothy J. Shin. Here is a link to the Washington Sec. State website which will confirm all of the information I have included in my formal complaint.

One month ago I contacted Newport Motors about a vehicle they had on their lot for sale. Of course they said come on down and we will take care of you. I had a trade in to use as a down payment for the vehicle that I was looking to purchase. My trade in was an older vehicle but it was immaculately taken care of and rebuilt. I actually spent over $10,000.00 dollars updating my trade in with a new engine, transmission, and clutch, with all of the paper work and receipts to prove. At this point I'm being told by one of the sales reps there who goes by the name of Mazi that everything is on the up and up. They offered $4500.00 for my trade in which was a lot less that I wanted to get but it is a Dealership and they are notorious for underpaying on used trade ins so they can mark the car up and make a HEFTY profit, no big deal there.

Here is where the deal starts to go down hill. I was told by Mazi that I would get a $4500.00 trade in value on MY CAR. Ten minutes later Mazi tells me he has to speak to his finance manager. He comes back and tells me there is a problem with my trade in, and all they can give me is a $3,000.00 dollar trade in value off of the top of the new USED car I'm trying to buy. I weigh out the losses and am a little uneasy but decide to pursue obtaining the new used car I am trying to purchase. Like so many other Americans out there I suffer from poor credit based off of poor decisions, so purchasing a vehicle from a car lot is no easy task for me.

The ticket price on the car I am trying to buy from Newport Motors is roughly $12995.95, after tax and licenses my total would be about $15,550.00 Minus the $3,000.00 dollar trade in that would leave me with a remainder balance of roughly, $12550.00 Because of my credit issues I was forced to pay the difference off in cash. For obvious reasons I don't have almost $13,000.00 laying around in a shoe box that I can fork over to some used car sales man that speaks reptilian better than English, so I strike up an in house deal. Here is the outline for the deal that was proposed.

There would be a succession of two post dated checks that Newport Motors could cash on specific dates. They gave me 30 days to pay up. Each check would cash every two weeks until I was the owner of the vehicle. Now each check was wrote out to Newport Motors for roughly $5673.66. I actually agreed to this unorthodox method of obtaining a new USED car because again, the banks will not finance me due to poor credit. So in a nut shell my monthly car payment was roughly $12,995.95 US dollars. The car that they would actually sell me was a 2000 Audi tt 180. The car had over 90,000 thousand miles on it so I was a little Leary, none the less I went against my better judgment and signed the paperwork. It took nearly eight hours to complete this process. I got in my new USED car feeling like I had just been taken advantage of.

Not 24 hours after I buy the car, the car breaks down. I call up Newport Motors and tell them what happened and they ask me what I did to the car...I said nothing the car simply lost power driving down the freeway and wouldn't start again. I then call up a tow truck to have the vehicle towed back to Newport Motors. Once I get back to the dealership Mazi comes out to great me. He says he has another Audi tt on a different lot, do I want to go check it out? I say sure lets take a look. I test drive the car and everything seems to be in working order, but then again I'm not a mechanic. I drive it back to the Newport Motors lot and Mazi says lets do some paper work. He then has a conversation with his finance manager and comes back to me. He states that this Audi tt is more money than the one I drove away in yesterday. The new Audi tt is a 2001 with 94,000 thousand miles on it. I was never reimbursed for the tow I paid out of pocket, and now I'm being told that the new USED Audi tt is roughly $1,765.87 dollars more. So now I would have to pay the difference on top of the $12995.95 dollars. I'm so frustrated that I actually go through with the deal. It takes Mazi another 6 hours to do the paper work. In two days I was in their office for over 14 hours with no pay or compensation. I am a small business owner and my time is very valuable to me.

So after two days of grueling work with Newport Motors I drive away in a very over priced 2001 Used Audi TT Quatro 180. This was never even the car that I wanted to buy, so I ask Mazi if once I pay this vehicle off can I bring it back in and trade it in for the car that I actually want, and of course he says no problem. I figured that if I payed nearly $14,000.00 dollars to Newport Motors in one months time, they would be able to see that I was trust worthy, and financially secure regardless of my credit situation. By the way credit doesn't dictate the amount of money an individual is worth. It actually dictates the amount of debt that individual owes to the bank or other credit or lending houses. I pay in cash period, that doesn't make me a criminal, or a bad person. Mazi gave me his word that when the time came for my last check to be cashed I could come in and trade in the 2001 Audi TT Quatro for a more updated vehicle. By that time I would be a "valued repeat client".

Well the day came for Newport Motors to cash the last check which again was roughly $5637.87 dollars. Every check I gave them cleared, like I said they would so today which is 9/22/08 I call Mazi up and say get ready for me because today is the day that I am going to trade in the 2001 Audi TT 180 Quatro. He says that this is his last day at Newport Motors and he will forward my account and file to a sales rep. who goes by Ken. Well, when I call Ken he treats me like he knows nothing about my past transactions with Newport Motors and instantly I become alarmed. Was I just taken advantage of by a sales rep who will tell me anything to get my money? I SURE WAS.

When I talked to Ken my relationship with Newport Motors was null and void. It simply DID NOT matter how much money I spent with their establishment, or in how little time I paid off the $12995.95. Ken said lets try to finance you through the bank, I said I wanted to purchase this car just like I purchased the other car. Ken convinced me to run my name trough the credit houses, he said that Newport Motors would push the loan through the bank for me allowing me to build up credit. Ken simply stated that Newport Motors could force a loan for me and I would have a less stringent payment plan on the vehicle. Well obviously the bank and credit houses turned me down just like I knew they would so that left me in the same position I was in when I purchased the Audi TT Quatro. Ken asked me if I could come up with more money. I reminded him that Newport Motors had just cashed a $5637.87 dollar check on 09/19/08 which was three days prior. They cashed the check on Friday, it cleared by today which is 09/22/08.

The deal was that I would purchase the Audi TT Quatro from Newport Motors and when the car was paid up in full I could trade the car in on a newer model with less miles, utilizing the cash payment system that was arranged for the sale of the Audi. Ken seemed like he was at a loss for words. I said I would drive to Newport Motors and work something out with them. Now when I got there today which is again 09/22/08 they flip the script thoroughly. A sales rep who I have never seen before comes up to me and asks if he can help me, I say no I am being helped by Ken, Ken gets back to his desk and tells me that Newport Motors will not do business with me. I ask Ken if it's because the Audi they sold me is about to blow up, and they want it off of their lot. (Like I'm the sucker that gets stuck with it) He says that he doesn't know why finance is not dealing with me. I am bewildered because in a 30 day time frame I pay Newport Motors nearly 13,000.00 dollars. Mazi told me that the day the car is paid up I can bring it back in to upgrade to a newer car. Well Mazi is no loner an employee with Newport Motors and the rest of the staff is unsympathetic. I start to get upset because I feel like Newport Motors simply wanted to sell me the car that they wanted me to buy, and when I made good on my word and paid the car up, Newport Motors re-n*g on their word.

For obvious reasons I am clearly upset. I ask Ken who in the past has paid up that much money in one month to Newport Motors? He can't name one other client that has been put on such a stringent payment plan and completed it like I did. The other sales rep walks over and says do you blame us for not wanting to do business with you? I mean you have horrible credit, a bank won't finance you, and by the way do you expect us (Newport Motors) to work with you now. I say of course, I have paid you guys nearly $13,000.00 dollars with in 30 days. The other sales rep states that we (Newport Motors) can't trust that your checks won't bounce. I say to him has any of the 3 prior checks bounced totaling nearly $13,000.00 and he said that was beside the point. This individual belittled me, mocked me, judged me, and lost a valuable client. After spending nearly $16,000.00 total on the 2001 Audi TT Quatro with in 30 days, and they treat me like I want something for free.

This establishment does not care about the consumer, they will bait and switch you, they will badger you until you drive away in a car you never thought own. They will get the sale that they want for you, not the car that you want for yourself. If you transact with Newport Motors prepare yourself for the COLD HARD SALE. They will treat you with respect until you sign the contract. After that Newport Motors will not come clean on any promises made to you. I would highly recommend avoiding this establishment at all cost. Learn from my mistakes and save yourself some money and time. If after reviewing my post, Newport Motors wants to do business with me I will rectify this complaint. But until then I will alert as many people as possible. My next stop is a complaint with the local BBB and then the attorney Generals office. Newport Motors watch out, I will be deleting all Newport Motors Craig's List posts for vehicles as I find them as well.

First of all, your transaction was NOT A BAIT AND SWITCH deal. You came to our dealership on an Audi TT and you left the dealership with the car you came to buy. How is that a Bait And Switch? I would understand your point if you came to the dealership on an Audi TT and then we sold you a Ford Focus. Then it would be a bait and switch. We never made an attempt to switch you to another vehicle. You got what you came to buy.

As for being unethical, you are biting the hands that feed you. As you stated, your credit is horrible because you burned every banks that extended credit to you. Your justification for your bad credit is based off your bad decisions. With your credit, you can not get financing from any banks. Even if you do get financing, you will be paying 29.99% interest. Newport Motors was the only dealership that gave you a second chance to buy the vehicle you wanted. Newport Motors took a risk by holding your two checks and not charging you interest. You were the one that proposed this payment plan and we went along with it. You first payment was deposited as agreed. But your second check, we had to hold off two extra weeks for you to make the funds good. So you did not make good on your words. We took a one time risk on you to help you out, and in return, you are going around and bad mouthing the dealership. Who is unethical?

Your trade-in was a 1992 Acura Legend with 165,586 miles. The Fair Kelly Blue Book trade-in value for your vehicle is $1200. We gave you $3000 for your trade-in. I think that is more than fair. Regardless how much you spend to fix your vehicle, your trade-in is based on book value. Just because you spent $10,000 to fix your vehicle does not make your vehicle worth $10,000. You got more than what your trade-in was worth. I don't see why you should be complaining.

The first Audi TT you bought, one of the fan belt broken. This was unpredictable. No mechanic can predict when a fan belt would break. Unfortunately, it did. We gave you two options. One option was for us to fix it at no cost to you. The other option was to trade it in for the newer 01 Audi TT which is little bit more money. These were the options that was available to you, we never forced you either way. You chose to trade it in since you didn't want to wait for it to be fix. As you know, used vehicle are Sold As Is in the State of Washington. Once you drive a vehicle off the lot, and the vehicle breakdown, the dealership is not liable. Dealership are not obligated to fix the vehicle for you. As a courtesy, we work with you to resolved the problem. We did not leave you in the cold. Most other dealerships would of told you to go fix it yourself. Even with good customer services, you still don't appreciated.

The real issue you have with Newport Motors was that we were not willing to financed you the second time around. Just because we took a risk on you the first time does not obligate us to do it again. The first time around, we took a $11,000 risk to sell you a vehicle just to help you out. But now, you want to buy a $32000 cars and you want to give us hold checks for the purchase. That is just not acceptable. No dealership or any kind of business would allow you to give them hold checks for the purchase. Especially with that large amount for the purchase. Just because we did not go along with your payment plan, you accused us off being a ripoff, scam and bait and switch. Also by you coming to the dealership yelling, cursing and threatens the dealership does not help your cause. Good luck to you and next time, when someone help you out, be appreciative not repay them back with vengeance.

I have made several attempts to work out this situation with Newport Motors to no avail. They have treated me so poorly that I feel ashamed of myself. Please I warn you to stay away from this POOR establishment.
