PLEASE NOT: I am NOT sure if this is a scam, but it smells fishy to me.


I had stayed away from Craigslist for months now (yes, still unemployed), but thought I would give it another chance...mistake.

Sent out my resume to multiple places and finally received a reply:


Hey [my name], it's fantastic to hear from you.

Thank you for e-mailing us. In case my ad was not extremely clear, the responsibilities of this position are as follows: you will be answering the main phone and taking messages whenever necessary, you will be scheduling our company meetings, and errand running for the company for things such as purchasing supplies and making bank deposits (you will always be provided with a company car). While you are running errands, you will also be given one of our company credit card(s) for all business purchases.

You seem definitely qualified for this position and more so than the other 22 applicants I received resumes from. I would like to take the next step with you. However, before I can schedule a formal meeting, our company will require that you acquire a recent (from the past 14-21 business days) credit report. We started requiring this because the company had some bad encounters with former employees taking advantage of being able to access one of the company credit cards.

Both myself and the company prefer it that you use http://2010-freescore.com to acquire this information as they are offering the check at zero cost to you. Nexas has also discovered that their checks always report back the most accurate information.


After you submit all required information, they will show you your personal credit report. Then, you need to email me the reported credit score, a phone number we can reach you at, and your schedule of availability to schedule an interview. Please do not email me the entire credit report, as it will most likely contain private content. I fyou have a less than desirable credit score, it will never prevent you from a position with us. Personally, I had a pretty low score whenever I started.

If you don't want to complete a recent credit check, unfortunately we will need to meet with our second choice.

Sounds legit. However, when I go to get my credit report...why is it that I have to pay $84 for a "free credit report" before I can even be considered for an interview? Interesting little ditty there on the 2010-freescrore website...sounds like a little ad.

Honestly, I'm not sure if it's a rip off or not. But I am VERY skepitcal. Furthermore, I don't have $84, so I have no way of checking this out further. Hopefully someone else will be able to shed some light.
