I have used Nextel services since March 2002 for one phone. I signed a one year contract. I was in need of an additional phone and contacted Nextel to compare rates with other companies. Everytime I spoke to a rep for Nextel, I would mention that I had requested insurance on my existing phone. Each time the rep would tell me that I did not have insurance but would put me only hold, then return to say that I did have insurance but Nextel had never billed me for it. It was an error on their part but that it would be corrected.

Confusing rate plans and different information from sales reps postponed my decision until June of this year.

By this time my existing phone had gone dead. On June 30th, I spoke with a sale rep named Augusta. She quoted a price for a new phone with a rebate and a rate plan for my existing phone and new phone that would share minutes. This appeared to be a good service plan that fit my need.

I also told this rep about the problems with existing phone and that I was going to contact the insurance. She informed me that I could go to my local Nexel Partner Service Location and turn in the old phone and purchase a rebuilt phone for only $35.00. She also told me that this could be done at anytime as long as the phone wasn't water damaged. I assure her it had never been exposed to water and that I would use this option.

My next bill that arrived was a shocker. A $400.66 bill for a monthly rate plan that was suppose to be $89.00 plus $35.00 trade in.

My two phone were not on a rate plan that would share and I was charge $160.00 for a rebuilt phone because they were claiming the phone I handed over to the local store was water damaged.

Although Nextel did issue a credit for the rate plan error, I have been refused a credit for the rebuilt phone charge. I have repeatedly been told that they send the phones to Motorolla and that Motorolla determines the phone condition.

I have spoke to Motorolla twice and they have never looked at my phone. The phones are tracked by serial number and an IMEI number. I have these numbers from the original box. Nextel refuses to acknowledge this information and continues to claim that Motorolla billed them.

They also cannot provide a bill date or service ticket from Motorolla.

I have cancelled my service and have also been informed that I will be charged $200.00 for breaking the contract on the new phone.

This is a racket.
