Nigerian Check Scheme Fraud/Counterfeit Checks mailed out all over the U.S./Postage is counterfeit as well Nationwide

On our about March 21, 2017, River Oaks Automotive Center was notified that our bank account number and routing number was stolen and batches of counterfeit/fraudulent checks were mass distributed all over the United States. We have become victims of fraud and we discovered from the Houston, TX Postal Inspector that this is part of a Nigerian Check Scheme, and they mail out the counterfeit checks in USPS priority envelopes using counterfeit postage as well. This is a network of crooks that target people who are (a) looking for a job (b) post items on CraigsList or Ebay or OfferUp (c) have rental property or (d) do online dating. They will send you a counterfeit check from River Oaks Automotive Center located in Houston, TX and they will ask you to cash it. They will then ask you to wire the money to a certain person using Walmart MoneyGram or some sort or wiring service. Do not try to cash or deposit the fraudulent check (the account has been frozen and the check will bounce, you will then cause yourself a NSF fee, and you will be out of pocket the money you lost) and do not send them your items you are selling on CraigsList or Ebay (because you will lose those items). Any information you have should be reported to the police or to your local United States Postal Inspector. They are working with law enforcement to catch this network of crooks.
